Rob Ford's Toronto

I have to add; Out of all the antics he's, hmm, performed over the last couple months (i.e. the drugs / swearing ...) the mocking of drunk driving during the council meeting was unbelievably low of him ... so much so if folks bring this up next election I bet this will serve to sway folks even in the groups above ... the rest of his antics are just entertaining

God, imagine the attack ads you could make...
"I do not smoke crack cocaine" "Yes I have smoked crack cocaine" <drunk driving imitation… then freeze frame on the last image> Is this the man you want for Mayor?

Can we stop with the 'faux outrage' thing? A 20 year old partying with an old man doesn't get a 'faux outrage' pass. Unless it's your niece's friend -- and the niece is just late in arriving -- it smells like week old fish.

Re; Alana Kindree: Sure, it's completely weird that they were hanging out, but to jump to the conclusion that she's a prostitute because of that IS sexist. She could see him as a mentor; she could've gone out with friends who were invited to hang out with Rob; there are a thousand reasons that don't end with "therefore, she's a prostitute."

Re: Alana Carroll: unless I've missed something, it's not yet been conclusively proven that she is Alana Kindree. The assumption that even if someone is a burlesque dancer that they're also a prostitute is ridiculous. I know women who've done burlesque personally, and most would knock a man out cold for suggesting such. Even if Alana Kindree is Alana Carroll, there's nothing but one staffer saying he *thinks* the mayor was with a prostitute.

I'm the first person in line to kick Rob in the ass when he gets tossed out of office or arrested, but the sexist comments about this whole thing is astounding. Reminds me of the attitudes I saw growing up in Rural Orangeville.

RE the Poisson/ToStar question-and-answer, my understanding right off the bat was that (a) involved Dixon parties refused to cooperate and speak to police, and (b) uninvolved Dixon parties were too afraid to cooperate and speak to police.

Thus, the story about the text and gang warfare thing could easily have been just that: a story. A smokescreen.

I agree with MM.

DoRoFo's 15 minutes are up, at least until the crack video surfaces, there is another police bombshell (if there is another such bombshell) and/or if Rob Ford himself explodes.

The US media are done with him, his interviews are repetitive and add nothing to the narrative and he has been stripped of his powers. He has no news value anymore, unless another AM station picks up the Ford Nation show or he does something totally outrageous.

Given his behaviour, and the denial and enabling from his family and supporters, I expect that he will run off the rails very soon. I can only hope there is no collateral damage.

That's what I've been thinking too, it won't be pretty, that's for sure.

Odds are that Ford is on medication for blood pressure, ADD, asthma, or some other ailment.

That would further complicate the affects of alcohol.

Don Peat is reporting that Ford met with a Fox reporter this evening. I wonder when the Fords will figure out this isn't working for them.

Right, once the furore dies down and life gets boring it's going to be primo meltdown time for Robbie, since no-one will actually give a shit if he's going to the gym or, in fact, anything.

Sad but true. I assume the cops are still watching. Hopefully they will catch him before anything really nasty happens. Most likely in a vehicle or in the domestic environment.

The gross part is dissecting a girl who is basically just more of Ford's collateral damage.

Plus I think we're forgetting what (re)triggered this whole conversation - namely that MetroMan said that he heard that Ford was NOT using the alleged escort service for sex. He implied it was more of a post-Lisi connection thing.

If it were just a smokescreen in the Toronto Star story that would be one thing. I don't think they could do that in an agreed-to statement of fact in a plea bargain, though.

Someone needs to ban these men from television. I'm getting sick of Ford's whiny little voice going on about how he's only human, everyone makes mistakes, coup d'etat blah blah...

Argh I've been trying to ignore this Alana discussion for two days. Even if she is a sex worker and even if he did have her in his office and even if she was his connection (all of which, I might add, is based on the speculation of one of his staffers and a few pictures of her in lingerie dug up online), it's like THE LEAST EGREGIOUS THING he's done. There are SO MANY MORE AWFUL THINGS he's participated in. I'm not saying it's not important to mention it, but days and days of discussing "is she, isn't she" and all the parsing of job descriptions and the whole creepy level of misogyny that's rippled under the surface (or right out in the open occasionally) of these comments... fuck. I mean did I really see someone referencing the sanctity of marriage at one point? I happen to believe that him having a hooker in his office is not the best judgment (if she is or was a hooker). But who gives a fuck if he's cheating on his wife? That is so beside the point.

Anyway that's my rant. That discussion is lame.
derailments happen from time to time, besides, it isn't an either/or proposition. We can discuss abuse of office, drunk driving, illegal drug use and procurement AND whether the little mayor was gettin' busy in the office. Besides, though it might not be a biggie to you and me, it might be a chink in the Ford Nation armour. You know, those folks who don't think lying and incompetence are a biggie.

Anyway, you could probably place bets that the Alana thing would be grabbed and worried to death by a bunch of us armchair internet detectives, like a terrier going after a bone.

Finally, it can be hard to correctly perceive tonal bias in text, especially without letting your own biases get in the way. Considering that there are a hell of a lot of male sex workers (frankly, the types I know best) I'm not sure where misogyny crept in. Unless, perhaps, you're subconsciously judging female sex workers as immoral or something.

Ford Nation seems to still be alive. See

This guy is apparently quite the right wing bigot.

"I have to agree the owner was friendly, nice man but super talkative. He talked to you about politics he talked to me about muslims taking over; I hear he is supposidly religious too; that's kind of hypocritical and totally sacrilegious. As for the food its ok halibut and chips; you found the fries soggy"

"The owner was friendly, but super talkative. I was alone and he joined me for a long talk about politics. "

"This place is usually filled with seniors, but is empty otherwise. I get weird vibes when I walk in, a slight look of racism from the owner? Kinda funny, considering how much I've eaten there.

Family run service that seems to be going downhill, I hate to admit."

The Toronto Star live chat today was pretty adamant that there is no connection between Ford and the Anthony Smith murder and no evidence that the video was shot on Smith's cell phone.

Well that's not quite accurate. They said that their sources in the community were adamant that it was a gang-related, random encounter, and it appears the Crown and defense lawyers agreed. But they also acknowledged that the police believed Smith's cell phone was possibly stolen (odd for a murder) and that someone called Twohey to tip him off that the Smith murder was related to the crack video.

Still, evidence on the surface looks stacked against the "Ford killed Smith" people.
