A mid-management professional on Bay Street with a graduate degree makes about $150-200k. Why on earth would you take a 50% pay cut to be a councillor?

A real estate agent in Toronto with a high school diploma makes about $50k. Why on earth wouldn't you take a 100% pay boost to be a councillor?
