The SRT itself isn't that bad, just everything about it. Why didn't the TTC ever order more trains as it hit capacity? Why did they not put in more escalators at Kennedy and Scarborough Centre? Why is there a recycling plant pumping noxious fumes into Ellesmere and Midland stations, rather than a transit oriented development?
My understanding is the vehicles are rather old. I'm not sure on the life expectancy of them or any kind of increase in repair costs that go along with keeping them around. Ordering more vehicles back then would have made sense but I guess there were other priorities at the time. Plus the major examples of condo development around the Scarborough Town Centre I would imagine are rather recent (within the last 10 ish years I'd say) so there was only so much demand before that point? (just a guess).
