"It's disturbing that Councillors continue to use taxpayers money for matters that are nothing but self-promotion" Rob Ford #TOpoli

The 2018 campaign continues. That said, there were only two Tweets by Don Peat and one article I saw on Twitter. They are ignoring him more.

It might not be carding or profiling but I don't think it's an acceptable way to treat a citizen. For one thing, the HTA states that cyclists need not provide a driver's licence as ID and that giving one's name and address is a sufficient alternative to doing so.

Part of the problem is, again, definitions. What is carding? This has been such a political football with changes proposed then implemented or not, depending on what the cops do or don't do. The practices and the policies exist in other municipalities apparently with similar confusion about what the rules are. Whatever, the results seem to be the same. So now its basically being handed over to the Province to sort and "solve". I am hoping they will look closely at the role of Police Boards and the provincial SIU.

The Star has amassed a lot of information over the last several years. On their website in the GTA section they have The Carding Project and are asking readers to submit FOIs for copies of their own police records. You download the application which you submit with a $5 application fee and will be charged 20 cents per page for a photocopy. For this you should get a history of your record of stops as well as the information/misinformation they have recorded about you, which may include "stops" you may not have understood were being recorded. They're asking that people share their records with the Star and are offering financial help to cover costs if that's an issue. And I hope that they get as wide a response as possible because the data may reveal other patterns than the ones the cops have so far acknowledged. (I'd be interested in asking social service agencies working with homeless clients to get their data because they tend to be victims of under-reported police rough justice.)

And yes, of course there's class privilege which covers more than any one aspect like race, income (net worth), family and social connections, etc. but if you talk about class you get labeled a socialist and get ignored cuz, ya know, we're all equal. There are elites within any group (Blacks, Asians, Aboriginals, Europeans, Muslims, whatever) so maybe we should be talking about systemic rather than individual racism and racists.

They never asked her for her name and address - they threatened her with arrest if she did not produce ID. They also didn't write the ticket until after she offered to present the only thing resembling ID that she had: a bank card with her name but obviously no photo.

I think she could have handled it differently, but I don't think the cops' approach was right and the amount of force used may not have justified an arrest. Appeals court jurisprudence suggests that if an arrest is not lawful, a suspect has a right to resist, provided the amount of force used to resist is not excessive.

Even if you interpret that "ID" does not have to be physical, LeeLee did not comply with the questioning cop:
LeeLee said:
"When police stop you you have to stop" they say.
"i didn't know you were stopping me, I haven't done anything, so why would I think you are stopping me?"
"that's not how it works. What's your name?"
"why are you stopping me?"
"you went through a red light"
"no i didn't"
at this moment I know something has gone array.
"give us your ID"
"I don't have any ID on me, and I haven't don't anything wrong"
"give us your ID or you are under arrest"
"I already told you I don't have ID"
"you're under arrest"

You forgot Idem 4:
A police officer may arrest without warrant any person who does not comply with subsection (2). R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 218 (4).

Also, you can't write a ticket without proper information such as name and address.

I hope people have moved from outrage over councillor office expenses that don't add up to very much, but you never know...
Rob Ford Going to Auditor General Following Council Expense Reports
http://www.640toronto.com/2015/08/0...or-general-following-council-expense-reports/

Ford says he will file complaint over expenses of two colleagues on council
In the statement, Ford took specific issue with “two items of particular concern” that he said he would forward to the office of the auditor general for investigation.

The first item was Willowdale Councillor David Shiner’s expensing of printer cartridges for his home office on both April 21 and 29.

Ford said that the cartridges that were purchased were for separate printers, seemingly violating a rule stipulating that home offices can only be outfitted with one printer.

“The issue is that they are cartridges for two separate printers,” Ford said. “I've asked Canon and they confirm that there is no printer that accepts both the 131 and 116 cartridges.”

The second item Ford singled out was Scarborough East Councillor Paul Ainslie’s expensing of $570. 17 for hot dogs, condiments and refreshments for a community barbecue on June 18.

The issue in that case was that the receipt submitted reads “Void Transaction, Invalid Receipt,” Ford said.

A spokesperson for Ainslie’s, however, told CP24.com that the councillor simply submitted the wrong receipt and will be uploading the correct one "within the hour." The spokesperson also promised to deliver the proper receipt to Ford herself.

How does Ford know there is a rule about only having one printer? I thought he hadn't read the rule book.

He should know - he doesn't even use (know how to use?) a computer. Sorry Rob, Trump is trying to run for POTUS and there can only be one fool sucking up all the O2.

i don't think this was posted here before... from october 2014...

Municipalities reject ‘Rob Ford’ motion for candidate criminal checks
Delegates at the Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador convention voted against a so-called “Rob Ford motion” on Saturday. It would called on the province to require municipal election candidates to get a certificate of conduct before being allowed to run. But many delegates didn’t want to create new restrictions when it so hard to get candidates to run in the first place.

has anyone heard anything more about this?
Beyond the incident in question, police are investigating a series of additional shootings which occurred early this morning, and may be connected to the Muzik shooting.

or this?
Police would not comment on unverified video circulating online that shows two police officers arresting a man at gunpoint.
