Jesus, does this ever end? This Mayor has made it abundantly clear that City Council has to have a mechanism for impeachment.

It's not bad news, but it does raise a conundrum. If Ford's aide is calling to help a local football team get Provincial money, is this an act of the mayors office, or the football volunteers? As the mayor and his aides are both, it's impossible to tell.

The Globe and Mail strongly hints that the "unnamed councillor" was none other than Mammo Thumbs.

In that case, the report describes an acrimonious closed-door meeting of the civic appointments committee at which an unnamed councillor pointed at staff and said, “I’m going to get you,” and added that bureaucrats had other councillors fooled, but not him.

Where is the problem with this?

The Mayor inquires (through his staff) about provincial funding to repair a playing field. Is this suppose to be unethical? illegal? How?

The fact that the playing field is Don Bosco where Ford coaches has no relevance since funding was provided by the province to other high schools in Toronto.

Imagine if Miller was still Mayor and his staff inquired with the Province for funding of an arts and culture project close to the Mayors heart (as an example). Would this be seen as scandalous? Of course not!

Like the boy who cried wolf too many times the Star is risking not being taken seriously anymore.

I don't remember any scandal when Mayor Miller led Toronto's efforts to work with MLSE, the Canadian Soccer Association and the Federal government to provide a new home for Soccer in Toronto. It was good for the city and it just happens to be one of his favourite things to do (watch soccer that is).

It really should be no surprise that Mayor Miller would have a sense of how needed a soccer stadium was given his interest in the sport and it took courage on his part to lead the city to donate the land and contribute a small (around $10 mil) of the capital costs.

Similarly, Mayor Ford would be well aware of the needs at Bosco and knowing the Province was puting money into high school football fields it would/should be no surprise that he would say "Bosco needs some of that...call and see if it can get some".

I didn't say that Miller did do something like that - that was a hypothetical, however as noted by TOareaFan above, Miller did in fact lobby other levels of government to fund a new home for soccer in Toronto and that Miller is a big fan of soccer. Don't recall any headlines in the Star expressing outrage over Miller's actions.
 
^Also, Miller regularly advocated for more TTC funding from senior levels of government, and all the while he was a regular TTC customer. For shame, David Miller!

So, Mayor Miller liking soccer is equivalent to Mayor Miller being the coach of the Canadian Men's soccer team while the above was happening?

As far as Ford pushing for funding for improvements to a football field that a team he coaches uses, no, that's not in itself a scandal, nor really a conflict of interest as there's no financial or other real gain to him, his family or his business and financial interests.

The only issue is this being another example of how uses city staffers for his direct personal football interests.
