Rob Ford's Toronto

We can dream, but this will not happen. For one thing, that sad excuse for a "news" outlet, CP24, will be unable to stay away. Ford is ratings crack to them. And any news editor, even if they're smart enough to realize it's 100% certain that nothing substantive or newsworthy will come from this stunt, wouldn't want to miss out the slim possibility of some kind of policy announcement (hahaha), meltdown, Budd Dwyer incident, etc.

Also, the crap corporate media in this town is pretty cowed by the possible accusation that they're "bias" against FoFam, on a "witch hunt," etc.

No doubt that brainiac from the Ford-fan page saw the same tweet you quoted, and just ran with it.

I only saw the post from him, nothing on twitter. I don't know where he heard it from.

Nobody is going to accept this. Also, who is working Monday? Everyone I know is off for 4 days and he bloody well knows this. It's just another chance to show what a victim he is, he will turn it around and say nobody accepted his invitation even though he reached out. Everything he does is so calculated yet transparent for people who have functioning brains.

Edit: Oh yeah, it's from 4:30 to 6:00. For realz.

90 minutes for 40+ councillors? WTF? How much of a conversation can you have in 2 minutes. Even if only 10 councillors accept that's still only 9 minutes per. What an imbecile! Ford math at its best.

yet another mayor...

Fort Macleod council suspends mayor

Fort Macleod Mayor Rene Gendre has held business negotiations behind the backs of colleagues, charged legal fees to taxpayers without council’s OK, refused to sign a behaviour covenant and generally made councillors feel he didn’t listen to them.

Eight months into his four-year term, Gendre is now mayor in ceremony and name only, after his colleagues voted this week to strip him of official committee posts and the right to chair meetings.

It’s a decision similar to how Toronto council treated the crack-smoking, obstinate Mayor Rob Ford — without any power to impeach him or make him resign or shape up, they revoked his leadership roles. He still gets to vote as a council member, but the deputy mayor leads council sessions.

'The Hero's Return'. I guess. Who can resist Mythology?

I hope the outlets send eager interns to cover it, then file their copy in the 'Noted, and Ignored' bin. Editors can sift it Wednesday, post it with a yawn Thursday. Meanwhile these Fords, irredeemable, venal grifters that they are, will set out on their bespoke tour of Media Drain Circlers.

I know the formatting is going to be brutal but couldn't resist posting this from our friends on the I hate the war on Rob Ford page:

I Hate The War on Mayor Rob Ford

Starting to hear rumours that the City Hall press gallery is conspiring to boycott Mayor Ford's return press conference Monday afternoon at 3pm.

[...]

i'm usually not one for ghettoization, but this makes me wish we could get all of ford nation into one neighbourhood, and then just let them run themselves with robbie as their leader.

I knew this was coming and it pisses me off way more than it should. Once again, he is ducking out of answering questions and being an adult about this situation.

So who is going to write his speech, Mama?

I have to say I think you're all making way too much fuss over this. Politicians have "statement" press conferences that don't involve an immediate Q&A all the time. Why do all 72 questions (or even 10) have to be addressed right then and there, on his first day back from rehab? As noted, some of these questions have been lingering since last October, some since last May, so what's another day? Yes, the next day is a holiday, but so what? After that there is Wednesday July 2, Thursday July 3, Friday July 4... and the work week after that, and so on. We do have a few good journalists out there; let them do their jobs and wear him down.

for those that can't read that, it says...

“If he messes up, he’s finished,” Doug Ford says of his brother Rob.

he went on to say...

“I don’t believe he’s going to mess up again.”

If Robbie was transparent as he promised to be when elected then there would not be a reason to be so urgent in our questions. The Fords like to play games, and the press have their jobs, if you are to wear down the Fords then no quarter must be given; the Fords have not, so why should we.

I personally tire of the Fords' political games, and would rather have CH not suffer the circus of the Fords or their followers.

Not designed or expected to be accepted. The opposite. This is Doug 'the best camping manager ever', from top to bottom. "All of the councillors who are against you or do not want to be associated with you (close to 100%) will stay away and then we will paint them as lazy (it is a work day) and harsh (unwilling to give you a 22nd chance). Joe Worms will transcribe it, and CP24 will give me a sound bite, and the whole thing will slide down the throat of Ford Nation like butter."

Kouvalis' poll numbers, which were very accurate last time, have Ford a distant third and Tory and Chow tied. Assuming Chow has similar internal numbers, I'm curious as to why she's started going after Ford harder. Maybe she wants conservative voters to think Ford's still a contender so enough people vote for him instead of Tory and, thus, give her the win?

I think you are missing the strategy here. Ford will have his public "address" and take no questions. After doing this every time he will be asked any questions he does not like by journalists (unless organized fluff questions by the usual outlets) he will simply say that he already addressed all of this in his statement and he has nothing to add. He will say that everything is in the past, that he appologized profusely, there's nothing he can do about it and that all he can do his move on a work for the great people of Toronto. He will then complain that even with all his good will the other spend spend spend socialist councillors still do not want to work with him (he invited them to his office after his speech but I doubt many show up considering many will be on vacation). He will go on to play the victim for the next 4 months and talk about witch hunts and the like....

The only problem is that he will screw up soon enough but that's the Ford master plan IMHO.

By last time I take you to mean 2010. They weren't so very accurate for the provincial election. And the Globe, whose endorsement of voting for a Hudak minority is still controversial, allowed Kouvalis to make editorializing comments on his poll numbers. I think it's odd to suggest that Chow's going after Ford so that people vote for him.
