Rob Ford's Toronto

The EXIF data on the video could be wrong. It's not outside the realm of possibility, especially if the phone wasn't connected to a network when it was recording. It could also explain why he missed his two evening events that night...

It would have the right time if it had been connected to a network at all, ever. Doolittle must have mistaken the source of the lighting. Forgivable considering you're watching the thing on an iPhone in the back of some shady guy's car.

First attempts to sell the video were made as early as Feb. 2013, to a CTV Cameraman.

If they're in the basement it could just be light from outside, the garage light or whatever. The main thing to take from her description was that it was well-lit and they could tell it was him.

Geeze, I hope he had enough cash left over to give his wife her customary $5K the next day!

They probably just had a bright light in the basement. Maybe even one of those SAD lights.

LeDrew: "Looking at page 471, and this is to do with Lisi, this is the mayor's friend and sometime driver, he met Lisi on um, an hour before the Steak Queen incident when the mayor was completely on something and speaking in patois and apologized later, but he met his drug dealer an hour before then, and uh, just as this is about, uh, the accused placed several threatening and extorting phone calls to individuals he felt may be in possession of the video"

Jacobsen: "That's not to be made public"

LeDrew: "Well that one is, owned by, uh sorry, so uh, it's uh, we didn't have that one out, what about the line following it?"

huh? this transcript makes LeDrew sound almost totally incoherent.

Thanks for the transcript!
I'm not aiming to defend LeDrew but he is reading the document, just handed to him, as he goes, so cut him some slack. He's also not a journalist and I attribute most of his poor qualities to that, rather than being an actual fan of Ford

Anyway, as I posted on the prev page, they went back over it (not unaware of Twitter, clearly) and clarified it was not subject to the ban, so it's cool. He just misspoke. LeDrew has not singlehandledly ensured that Rob Ford does not get a fair trial and walks. Plus, it'll probably be out in 2 weeks anyway.

Also, does anyone know if video files are tagged with meta data like the EXIF information in images? Could the police know exactly where and when it was filmed, and on what device etc?

Given that the file is a .mov and the device has been previously described as an iPhone, I'm guessing that the following may be available, assuming the metadata hasn't been stripped somehow: http://www.csitech.co.uk/iphone-video-metadata/

To cut to the chase:
mdtacom.apple.quicktime.make

mdtacom.apple.quicktime.creationdate

mdtacom.apple.quicktime.location.ISO6709

mdtacom.apple.quicktime.software

mdtacom.apple.quicktime.model

So can we identify a specific device that shot a video? Not definitively no, however we may have a case where a number of phones are seized, perhaps a couple of Androids, an iPhone 3 and an iPhone 5. They may all have the same video on their phones showing illegal activity and be accusing one another of shooting it. In this case we may have sufficient metadata to pinpoint the culprit.

Nothing too useful, really. Time of creation, make & model (e.g. "iPhone 5"). Don't get too excited about the "location" tag either; although "ISO 6709 Standard representation of geographic point location by coordinates is the international standard for representation of latitude, longitude and altitude for geographic point locations", there's no guarantee that the device had a meaningful location lock to write to the file, especially if it was in a basement [of a crack house] at the time.

Having said all that, I think the video is still pretty incriminating. As animatronic has pointed out, Ford's apparent polished crack-smoking technique is surely a rare thing for someone who has smoked crack once, probably about a year ago - and the man was probably in one of his drunken stupors at the time. Such dexterity!

The new police document confirms the so-called Mayor Rob Ford “crack video†was recorded Feb. 17, 2013 at 7:57 p.m.

I can't find the link to Ford's itinerary.
This was at 8:00pm on a Sunday.
I wonder what he was supposed to be doing the next day...

Personal time! Meeting with constituents! Nothing to see here! Anything else?
