Rob Ford's Toronto

I'm a Social Libertarian Humanist, do I win a prize?

Come on people, this is getting silly, as silly as a big C conservative born with a silver spoon up his ass pretending to be blue collar.

Tomato, Tomatoe.
Anything with "Socialist" in the title or description of a party or candidate is absolute anathema to many voters for good reason. One good example is Bob Rae who after screwing Ontario flat fled to the Liberals. Another good example is Jack Layton who managed by heroic effort and personal sacrifice to tear himself away from the iniquities of the Country Club crowd in Hudson Quebec to launch his campaign as the saviour of the city of Toronto and later the entire country. He is now gone, Olivia Chow is merely the shadow of a deceased charlatan.

We have one of the most exciting periods in Toronto's municipal history going on right now, and you guys are boring us with your stupid socialism debate? You guys are ruining a great thread, that's full of twists and turns. Trust me, when this is all over, the Ford Circus, will fill more books and movies than any other period of Toronto's political history. Just give the partisan political BS a rest already and let's get back to our world famous mayor. This story is deeper and darker than I could have ever imagined.

The six buildings that make up "Kingsview Park" are all condominiums. In fact some of the first condo's to be built in Toronto by Tridel (known as "DelZotto" at the time). I read somewhere that some of the units in these buildings go for as little as $57,000!

These buildings are CONDOS? I thought they were all TCHC buildings? WTF!

well, it's not totally clear that they haven't visited the windsor road house, just that they didn't raid it full force.

you have to wonder why they didn't head in there though, like seriously.

Because the police got their full cooperation. That's why.

This is probably what happened. The latest from the Toronto Star's Rosie DiManno:

That Windsor Rd. address, the Star has learned, was included on search warrants sworn out by police before the multi-jurisdiction raids were launched in Toronto, Windsor (the city) and Edmonton. Police never went to the house on Thursday, but that doesn’t mean they hadn’t served the warrant earlier. At least one other address listed in the warrants was visited by police last Sunday — they simply knocked on the door rather than kicked in the door.

Andrew Coyne: Rob Ford’s good shot at re-election another example why we need to reform voting system

So, just to catch you up with all the latest on Toronto’s mayor: The police were reportedly aware of the infamous video of the mayor allegedly smoking crack weeks before it was shown to the Toronto Star; the mayor’s name is also reported to have been mentioned in discussions picked up on police wiretaps, part of a year-long investigation culminating in this week’s massive raid on an apartment complex in the city’s western suburbs — the same one where the mayor is reported to have told staff the video could be found.

Two of the three men pictured with the mayor in a photo taken outside a notorious local drug den inhabited by a high school friend of the mayor were arrested in the raid; the third was shot dead outside a downtown nightclub in March. The house was invaded days after the photo was first published by a man armed with a pipe who beat up the inhabitants. Oh, and the city’s police chief refuses to say whether the mayor is under criminal investigation.

Now for the bad news. If an election were held today, the mayor would have a good shot at re-election. As of late May, more than a week after the story of the alleged crack video broke, Rob Ford still had the approval of 42% of Toronto voters. In a probable four- or five-person race, that would very likely be enough to win.

Then there's 340 Dixon Road. Nine units are listed, one at $42,900 (Maintenance fees of $749.51 Monthly). At least, the Land Transfer Fee will be low.

UNRELATED ?.... If the units are that cheap would it be profitable for a developer to buy all the units rip it all down and sell new condos there...

Blech, look at those maintenance fees! More than your mortgage payments! I wonder what kind of characters are on the condo board in that building...
It lists taxes as $735 and then Maintenance as $576. Tax must be annual, given it's about 25% of what I pay, at about 25% of the property.

So why assume the Maintenance is monthly?

Because property taxes are paid annually (in installments) and condo maintenance fees are paid monthly. One reason the maintenance fees are high might be the size of the unit. The age of the building is also a factor.

Don't take my word for it, though. Here's a comparable (in price) listing in Malvern at $99,000. The maintenance fees are listed as "$433.77 Monthly", which is in the same ballpark. (It's certainly not around 1/12th of $576, if you were implying that the $576 maintenance fee in the other listing was annual.)
