RBC Centre (LEED Gold, CadFair, 41s, KPF/B+H/&Co.) COMPLETE

Can see band of light on north side of building that's programmed to the light pattern in the lantern. It's pulsating blue and gold/white of course. Officially wins as best new office tower downtown.

Just saw it for myself tonight. Very cool. The lantern flushes from one side to the other; the (south) side flushes bottom to top. The two are timed so that they meet at the top at the same time.

Lantern Testing Pictures, August 27, 8:30 pm

The night-time picture quality isn't great as I just have an ordinary camera but here are a few shots from around 8:30pm.

Kudos to RBC and Cadillac-Fairview for such a fine building! A wonderful addition to our skyline, both day and night!

RBC with the LEDs finally activated looks amazing !

thanks for sharing these images MatrixElement with those of us that are not downtown @ night

I swept into the lobby of this place the other day and made straight for the art at the south end - shiny, eye-grabbing, multi-coloured plastic panels that look good enough to eat. Then took the escalator down to an underwhelming concourse, and through to Metro Hall's obstacle-course food court.

The lobby itself has some sort of vaguely industrial/deco feel to it, all curvy and off-kilter, but I can't say that - apart from the art - I was particularly impressed.

Hopefully future highrises will take a cue from RBC, especially with the use of LED lighting to highlight the building's features and roofline. Toronto could use more colour at night.

we need volunteer to get down there with a video camera... anyone who can deliver us video will surely be thought of as a modern day hero!

It looks brilliant from King East; as I headed over to Betty's I could see the lantern's sweeping colours from all the way back at Berkeley. If it's on again when I'm out tonight I'll see if my phone's video camera can get anything worthwhile.

This certainly is a pretty exciting development as far as nighttime lighting goes. It has to be the most prominent lighting display after the CN Tower's LEDs.

While the effect is nice, the 'gold' looks more like a puke green imo.

Have you seen this in person or are you commenting on the photos from the previous page? The colours tested in the lantern are blue and yellow, nowhere near puke green.

I saw it in person last weekend. The blue hue was nice but the second color had me guessing what it was suppose to be. I don't know if it was just from that perspective, but I definitely didn't look 'golden' to me and certainly not a royal bank plaza gold.
I suppose its probably difficult to recreate that tone of gold with lights. I found it had too much of a greenish ting to it. It could be the green cladding thats tinting it from an angle. In any case I'll see it tonight again, I'll take another look at it then.

Direct Lantern Pictures, September 10

Some direct pictures of the lantern testing this evening. I tried some short videos also but they were only testing dark blue followed by light blue, so it wasn't as dramatic as the dark blue vs yellow, and you can't really see the difference on video. Of course after I got home they started testing bright red.

great to finally see some good photos of the lantern being lit up. thanks!

Looks awkward and tacky. None of the light lines up. What's with the lantern being lit up but just a line down the side?

They should have floodlighted the entire side up to the lantern.

I think it looks awful... sorry.

That looks awesome. I love the single line down the side. It looks sharp, clean, and distinct. Doing the entire side would have been way too overwhelming for the building and the flaneur.
