PM Mark Carney's Canada

I'm guessing most jobs wont depend on the auto sector if we just let America dictate terms and pull out of Canada anyways.

Right now, decoupling is painful enough that Tump and co. aren't fully motivated to do that. They'll put some pressure to try and move some jobs. But they seem to realize that pushing for the whole pie overnight is dangerous. But BYD setting up in Canada could be the trigger. Especially given that BYD actually tried this in Mexico already. And it prompted the US to slap on tariff rules that required 100% North American sourcing of components. That could become 100% American sourcing if this dispute escalates.

If American auto manufacturers hadn't been sitting on their hands for the past thirty years they wouldn't have been outworked by the Chinese on EVs. Whatever happened to the free market, anyway?

Outside of this, one of the key talking points in Beijing is surely going to be China purchasing more of our seaborne oil, as they are now cutoff from Venezuela. Supposedly calls from China have increased since last week with petrochemical companies looking for new supply.

Can BYD make a car out of 100% North American parts? Even Teslas made in USA have Chinese bits.

X is the most important source of news today. If not for X the world would not know that Israel is carrying out a genocide.
Maybe in 2022. Now, not so much. Many independent news outlets have moved away from X; predominantly because it’s become a steaming pile of algorithmically driven right-wing horsesh!t. Plenty of first-source news on Palestine can be found on Bluesky and other platforms.

The only “news outlets” that haven’t fled Xitter are almost all right-wing propaganda houses and legacy media.

The fact that you’ve cited an unverified report from a dude named “dogedesigner” (Musk stan) as “news” should be telling.

I actually posted a tweet from Elon Musk pertaining to Canada which makes it newsworthy and worthy for discussion on a forum like this regardless of whether this happens or not. Also, the UK Telegraph newspaper published the very same information 2 days ago claiming that Starmer was trying to enlist Canada and Australia so whether or not this happens this is anything but "unverified information" or "trolling".

The latest reporting from the Telegraph posted 18 hours ago is: "Starmer fails to get Canada's backing over Musk AI row" so good! It is not going to happen!

You realize the Telegraph is right-inclined, too, do you?

Try a paper that isn't a UK version of a Postmedia editorial stance.
