I agree with the reference link idea. Also, it'd be nice to have a pic of the day archive.

For expanding the image, instead of a popup, can you do one of those javascript light-box dealies? ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightbox_(JavaScript) )

I will explore these ideas. There is a archive that I used until we ran into server issues. Will now activate it again.
