Been on an urban kick...

Photo Of The Day: Ritz-Carlton From U of T

We've had some people complain about how One Bedford towers over the University Of Toronto campus. Do we have the same problem here or are we OK because these buildings are much further away?

Pay closer attention to the complaints. They were about One Bedford rising out of University College specifically, the iconic U of T building with very distinctive architecture as seen from King's College Circle. That photo shows no buildings rising awkwardly behind of Convocation Hall. Even if there was a comparable situation, Convocation Hall is no University College and it wouldn't be as significant.

A building we've always liked from afar. That opinion has been changed by this photo. Looks like it would fit in quite nicely in some third world country.

Photo Of The Day: The Future Market Square Site

What the north side of Front Street east of Church looked like after 1960's redevelopment plans fell through. This lot was replaced by Market Square, a mixed condo/retail project that opened in 1984.

Photo Of The Day: 1 King West

Former Toronto developer Harry Stinson's 1 King West actually looks pretty good in this picture. But then the problem with this building has always been the east and west facades. This shot shows the three storey penthouse unit that has remained empty since the building was constructed. This may now change as it seems it is finally priced to sell.

Photo Of The Day: City Hall Goes Green

City Hall's deck has been pretty much a wasteland for many years. Access to it was often restricted and even if you could get up there was really nothing to see or do. Well this is now changing as the city turns the deck green with vegetation. Good to see this and the revitalization of Nathan Phillips Square proceeding.

Photo Of The Day: On a Clear Day You Can See Forever

We've seen plenty of shots of One Bedford rising. Now we get to see the opposite view. And we get to see how a select few will get to live. Hey U of T how do you like them apples?

Photo Of The Day: Bay and Dundas

Another recent addition to the Yonge and Dundas area that didn't get much love from Urban Toronto members when it first was built. But this shot of the Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University actually makes the building look quite cool. Too bad it takes photographic tricks to accomplish this.

What are the "photographic tricks?"
I see only a building with sunlight reflected upon it.

While we feel the Bay Adelaide Centre cladding was a missed opportunity we do quite like the lobby.
