I don't think this is true at all. Siemens was being considered by RTG even after they had been awarded the bid for Stage 1.The 2006 LRT cancellation and the following lawsuit means that Ottawa cannot use Siemens trains in the foreseeable future.
I dont know if we can sum this latest issue as bad luck. If a train derails, chances are there is something that caused it to derail: either some kind of defect, track issue, etc.. The chances a train just derails because it's having a bad day are pretty slim. They really can't catch a break can they? The door thing is classic bathtub curve, problems like that will go away in time - but all these issues is bad luck and near catastrophe time after time!
Why didn't the operator notice that the train had derailed? Why didn't anyone pull the emergency brake?
The derailed bogie was nearly 80m away from the cab. The operator most likely had no idea. Why didn't the operator notice that the train had derailed? Why didn't anyone pull the emergency brake?
Cant you see that the train is not in line from your mirror? Still nobody pulled the emergency brake? The derailed bogie was nearly 80m away from the cab. The operator most likely had no idea.

What is scary is that the derailed train crossed a bridge. Thankfully, it stopped before the curve required to reach Hurdman Station. Why didn't the operator notice that the train had derailed? Why didn't anyone pull the emergency brake?
