Official UT World Cup 2006 Thread

Figo should be banned for more than just his head butt. The guy is a serial diver. His unsportsmanlike behaviour only works in a league that promotes it - La Liga; though I would argue that all meditrannean ball is the same so let's throw Serie A in there two as a league that promotes cheap plays. Put him in a real league like the Premiership or budesliga and he would flounder. Better yet throw some skates on him and let's see how long the jackass lasts after his first real check. :D

I'd put an asterisk beside both Italy and Portugal wins.

Portual wasted easily 20 mins with fake injuries in the second half. Dutch didnt even have a chance to do anything.

Very disappointing with England's loss today:(

Brazil by default now...

Anyone else think Rooney's red card was harsh? What about that hand ball in the penalty area that wasn't called? Damn, I'm just a sore sport.

Glad to hear France won... I'll be rootin' for them now.

What a heartbreaker! With my uncle visiting from England joining us for the game too! *sob* Don't think anyone had anything to be proud of after that game.

Guess it's time for me to jump over and support the host country. What's a good pub for Germany fans?

Portugal should be ashamed of that team. The whole world watching and they dive around like kids at a pool. You are now the lauging stock of soccer - your last two games were examples of poor spotmanship that should not have been rewarded with a) red card for Rooney b) missed hand ball c) two foot take down in the box in Extra time. Not to mention they should have easily won with 11 men - but they didn't because their talent is in acting.

Maybe I grew up watching too much hockey but when one dives and rolls around for no reason you should not be playing at a world level. Ryan Smith takes a puck off of the teeth and comes back three minutes later.

Not to mention what the heck is an Argentine ref doing overseeing this match. Not like there is major bad blood between Eng and Arg on and off the pitch. Fifa should now better. Same thing as 98. Red card for nothing.
Just like I would not want and English ref overseeing an Argentina match.

Finally with all those emmy award preformances Emgland DID NOT CAPITALIZE when they should have. Crouch did nothing. Gerrard and Lampard - invisible. Rooney - Quiet as a mouse. The man of the match was Hargreaves pure and simple. There should have been more of them.

For the sake of my sanity please please please let it be Germany and France next Sunday.

That Portugese team is absolutely disgraceful - watching Ronaldo's shameless lobbying for an undeserved red card for his... clubmate at Man U was just plain pathetic. No Englishman would ever stoop this low. I sincerely hope that France will teach this sad group of slimy poseurs how to play football in a fair manner.

I would also like to meet the f***wit from FIFA who decided that having a ref from Argentina would be a good idea for this game. If that's not a loaded choice than I don't know what is.

While I sympathize with some of the commentary above it doesn't change the fact that the English side was weak all tournament and frankly didn't deserve to advance. Rooney was useless and has the maturity of a 12 year old, Lampard couldn't find the net if his life depended on it, Beckham was largely absent and Gerrard didn't live up to the hype. The games that the English side played in where basically the most boring of the tournament.

What an ending to the Italy - Germany game... Though I'm not a fan of Italy, I was delighted that the game didn't go to penalties.

If Portugal beats France tomorrow, World War III will be declared on College St: Portugal VS Italia :eek

I guess Brazil vs Portugal would have been a civil war on College...

I'm still shocked they were taken down by France, a team who only by luck made it out of the group phase.

It wasn't luck, it was qualifications follez!!!1!1!1!1111

Well, their moving to the next round was dependent on Korea losing.

Nonetheless, they're through, they upset Spain and they upset Brazil, now they need to prove themselves against the top seed of group D, the undefeated Portuguese.
