Official UT World Cup 2006 Thread

I take it you didn't see their win over Serbia-Montenegro?

I posted before I had seen that result. Impressive, but then Serbia isn't exactly a powerhouse.

I'd still take Brazil. I guess we'll see...

What shite ump'ing though eh.

Congrats Tayser. You guys have a great team... I'd love to see you beat Italy in the next round.

Ukraine!!!!!!!!!!!!

Woo Hoo!

If we play Korea, I'm going to Koreatown to celebrate with the Koreans :)

I've been invited to go tonight and hang with a bunch of Korean's. They love to party!

Well, no celebration tonight in Koreatown.

Korea is out. Lost 2-0 to the Swiss.

The Portugal-Netherlands game tomorrow should be impressive. Both teams have strong ensembles. I predict 2-1 Portugal.

Equally of enthusiastic mention is that Argentina will be facing the German hosts of this world cup in the next round.

I'd also throw a few dollars towards Ghana creating the biggest upset in World Cup history by defeating Brasil in the first round.

by an oscar winning performance.

I'm secretly hoping the Italian big girl's blouses get flogged by whomever they're playing next.

Thirty Years and we get the arse like that.

argh?

Another game called by the ref - Henry goes down as if shot in the face while the replay clearly shows the spanish defender merely ran beside him. Ensuing free kick results in a Viera header to win in the 88th minute.

But for my mind, the most disgraceful display was by Portugal - Figo's head-but behind the ref's back and the following faked injury and their goalie faking another injury to kill time. I love football, but this world-cup has shown again why most North Americans cant stomach it - it is hard to respect guys who can go off on a strecher and be back sprinting 5 minutes later. If a guy goes off on a stretcher in the NHL or NFL - everyone is just hoping the guy lives.

Yeah, this World Cup hasn't been the prettiest, but I'll take it.

Ukraine in the final 8 !!! Yay Baby!

This is shaping up to be a boiling cup of water. Nobody is going without a fight.

It's too bad about Australia, and I admit that the Portugal-Netherlands game was one of the dirtiest and less sportsman-like I've seen in a long time. If there were more Dutch in Toronto, there would certainly be plenty of fist fights and flying chairs on College st.
