Second pic was a mistake and I can't delete it in "edit". In any case, it's around the corner from the first shot....

As a child, my mother's employer had a childrens Christmas party there. In the western themed room as I recall. I received a street hockey set, with net, as the gift! Good times. I still remember the twinkling stars built into the ceiling.

+1000. My favourites whenever I'm in the area are La Mariana (Honolulu), South Shore Tiki Lounge (Maui) and Otto's Shrunken Head (NYC). Also been to Trader Vic's in Chicago, which wasn't bad, and there's another one in Maui as well, in Lahaina (can't remember the name right now), which isn't Tiki per-se, but will do for that stretch of Maui. When I lived at Mount Pleasant and Davisville there was an old-school Chinese place on the east side of Mount Pleasant, just north of Davisville, that already had some Pacific-themed decor to it, and I always thought it wouldn't take much to convert it into a perfect Tiki bar.

Weather's nice, breaking out my Kahala shirts soon....

The Armada Room at the Holiday Inn!

That's one of the few things that bugged me about that film (which is still one of my absolute favourites). They had half of one of the two greatest house bands in history - Booker T & the MGs (the other was, of course, the Funk Brothers), but played that down with those "candy ass monkey suits" - sure it was funny, but come on - Steve Cropper and Donald "Duck" Dunn deserved better!

Considering they were not exactly at the top of people's minds when The Blues Brothers came out I'm sure they are happy with what they ended up with.

Charioteer: Neat TTC Artist's rendering of the expanded Bloor/Yonge Subway station...
I noticed that the Gloucester Reds are the subway cars in the picture dating this back
to the early 60s...this looks like it was water based paint...

I really like seeing renderings like these from the past...
The postcards that you also posted from the 60s and 70s are always
great to look at...LI MIKE
