And... Bay Lincoln Mercury [the building], did go up in flames, not sure of the date, or whether they had already moved. Yes, it was on that same block; to the north east, fronting on Bay street.
I could pretend that the following re-revisitation of Bay and Elm was prompted by this mention a few pages back, but really I just wanted to insert a new photo I found, add an annotation or two, as well as look at the North East corner of Bay and Elm... apologies if this has been covered before.
My
previous post, with addition:
This will be a slight revisitation of a corner previously posted (by Mustapha and colbyb somewhere in
this thread) -- I don't *think* anyone has compiled all of these together. [and if they have, well, here goes anyway]
Then: Bay and Elm, SE corner, 1928
A slight turn eastwards, in 1952:
1952+ (?) The light /wire post seems to have been changed from the previous photo, so I'm guessing it's later... The tenant is the Village House Hotel. Note 'Ladies Entrance' on south end.
Early 80s?
My new photo:A slightly better angle on Davey C's Tavern -- allegedly 1978-80ish:
Sometime in the 2000s
And April 2012
Now, as compensation for my repost of previously covered material, let's shift our view to the north east corner of Bay and Elm:
Then - Oct 1928 (comparing to the 1952 straight east view on Elm above, it's not clear whether this is still standing in 1952):
Then 50(ish) years later, 1978(?) (the set is labelled from 1977-1998), as Mustapha noted, the Lincoln sales building:
and Now: (June 2012): I think (but am not sure) that those two manholes are the same.
Bonus:
Then: Bay looking N from Elm, May 1958
Now: Bay looking N from Elm, June 2012 (from s side of Elm as I wanted a slightly wider view) Can you see
anything that's the same??
I had intended to do a quick set for
650 Bay (the SW corner of Bay and Elm), but I seem to have misplaced the 'then' photos. (I am pretty sure they're kicking around this thread somewhere via someone else, but I want to gather them all in one place
If I find them I'll post.)
Good day.
