Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

It's a mystery to me why someone who owns a $4 million house couldn't replace a few window panes. It would cost maybe $400 in total.

It's somehow comforting, though, that even with all the furious renovation that's been going on in Rosedale these past few years, there are still available a few "handyman's specials".

k10ery, What's your avatar?

Chapman and Oxley's electric Tower.

And, Moose, if that story suggests that Joy Oil won't cometh in the morning, I think it speaks to the unsuitability of long-term monopoly contracts over public space, not the unsuitability of the building.

"they do have a habit of leaving $4 million houses around to rot."
QUOTE k10ery.

Eg: s/w corner, South Drive & Park Road along with the separation & sale of it's s/w property.

"2 Beaumont Road."
QUOTE Mustapha.

The place looks like a dump.

I believe it belongs to Taylor Thomson. The Thomsons are not hard up for cash, but they do have a habit of leaving $4 million houses around to rot.

Taylor Thomson herself is an interesting lady.

k10ery, what an interesting piece of intelligence, and thought provoking Macleans article. I wonder how people in the public eye see themselves after reading something like this. Or perhaps they don't read coverage about themselves.

Anyways, the eccentricities of the rich living in run down houses makes for great human interest story reading. I suppose they feel they have nothing to prove in doing so - a kind of reverse status thing.

Ah, Unbuilt Toronto... great book. I also enjoy looking at fantasy TTC subway maps too. :)

Have to disagree about this house. I don't mind the new roofline and dormers, but removing the shutters and those trellisy structures was a mistake. The facade is now too stark.

Further to 31 Whitney, I happened to drive by today and the owners have indeed put up (blue) shutters. Looks a lot better.

I also took a look at 2 Beaumont and it looks even more derelict in real life than was suggested by Mustapha's pictures. The place next door is also down-at-the-heels, which, if our intelligence is true, also belongs to Ms. Thomson.

Now, there will be no doubt that we are beholding the true power of this, Mustapha's Thread, within Urban Toronto!
(LOL)

Ah yes, JT; a Then and Now post; and then a steady stream of furtive looking passersby shuffling by your house in Rosedale. Not poking fun at you Blovertis. :) I felt bad enough standing outside taking the picture. I've only been challenged once. It was in Rosedale too. Private detectives do adopt the most creative disguises/'covers'. You'd think they were gardeners or cable service people. :)

I didn't think she lived in it. That article says she owns four houses on a "Rosedale cul de sac". Could it even be vacant did you think?

Her story is the story of many people, just with more high-priced lawyers. She didn't come off like a bad person to me. Though the Thomson money could be put to better use than for collecting houses...

No mere fantasy! It's the start of my campaign to have Chapman & Oxley design our new casino at Exhibition Place.

The new avatar, on the other hand, is to build FLAP-awareness among the people on the "Ice Condos" thread.

Then and Now for May 18.

Then. 121 Elm Avenue c1910. 'Residence of Percival Leadley.' Without being too presumptious, perhaps J T Cunningham will come along soon and tell us who Percy was..

Now. August 2011. Not faithful to the original perspective because of that tree on the left. I like this house; it has, um, punchy colours.
