Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Dufferin and Eglinton looking west. A 20 foot ladder would have come in handy. The Dominion Bank on the right might have been torn down or is unrecognizable in the strip of stores on the north side. It looks like Vaughan road did go north of Eglinton at the time.

I found the same shot from way up high looking east this time.

'gated' developments... in certain areas this is seen as a desirable feature; I wonder if it meets a real security need sometimes.

In suburban Vegas, almost every development is 'gated'. There are sometimes a few houses outside the 'gates' (which are just 10' tall walls, minimal-to-no-security).
I had the, um, pleasure to stay in a couple of said communities over the years. It's NOT a pleasant experience. Very segregated, isolated, BORING!
..Oh Ya, and super ghetto now that many developments sit abandoned and half-built (Vegas was the fastest growing City in the U.S. prior to the 2008 Financial Meltdown, and it shows!)

What, you couldn't duplicate the 5:00pm secretarial pool stampede? I am disappointed. :)

I wanted to get up in the garden where the original photographer must have been standing but they have glassed in that section. If you look closely there is one man in the rush of women.

It's a happy (and rare) occasion when the Now looks better than the Then! Thanks!

For comparison:

Quite neat how the Army and Navy store twinned itself.

Also quite neat how there was a 'army surplus' culture back in those early days. I assume they sold the same merch you can get now - new or ex-military boots, coats and the like..
