What about "Hurricane" Hazel, who saw her city through over a generation? She was pretty popular and wasn't she like the longest serving mayor in the world at some point, or at least, close to it?

Hmmm... non-white, non-Christian elected into a Conservative-Wild Rose-Republican Christian stronghold?
Nenshi for one was working side by side with people in the 2013 flooding, and just doesn't promote himself as one of the "folks" but acts like it unlike former mayor Ford, which of course leads to Nenshi promoted as the "good example" to Ford's "cautionary tale".

No, but with our diversity, we have a surprising lack of visible minorities who run for mayor.

Why are people hating on Nenshi? I suggest reading through his wikipedia page if you are unfamiliar with his list of accomplishments. Of particular note was the leadership role he demonstrated during the 2013 floods.

One of the first things Nenshi did after his first elelction was to go, quite literally across the street from city hall. to introduce himself to the Aboriginal community residents. It was the first time that had ever happened. He invited them to visit city hall, learn how it works and to apply for jobs listing the range of work opportunities cities offer.
He was also quick to call out Harper on his Islamaphobia and noted that he could be one of the Muslim Canadians the HarperCons proposed could be deported or blocked from returning to Canada in their election campaign AND he did this in the Heart of the Harper Homeland.
