It's not only gross looking and not optimally functional (the ole ramp vs. stairs debate), but it also strikes me as perhaps borderline dangerous; there are large parts of it that are nearly or completely opaque and it just generally seems to have terrible visibility into it.

Nothing about any aspect of its design makes me want to use it.

Not only that but why does the bridge have to be enclosed? It's not like it's a bridge that's connecting two indoor building structures.

If Metrolinx is to be electrify the rail corridor, protection barrier has to be installed on the bridge. Enclosing the bridge was the cheapest way as well better protection for the rail corridor. Those who rail fan can photograph from the bridge in a weather protection area.

Will they have to modify the other existing ped bridges to work with electrification?

It fits the Liberty Village neighborhood perfectly and aptly: jumbled & an incoherent mess.

But hey, at least there's finally going to be another pedestrian access point.

It's unfortuante. The area provided such a great starting point.

All bridges and walkways will require protection install on them "IF" electrification takes place over tracks GO runs on. John St in Weston was the first bridge to have it done when it was built.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and impacts on supply chains and specialized labour, there has been a delay in the anticipated opening date. City staff are closely following up with the Contractor to prioritize the installations of the elevators, and hope to provide an update to the community soon. The new anticipated opening date will be by the end of this year, with the remaining soft-scaping to be completed in early 2021.

Designed by non-pedestrian and non-cyclists. A spiral ramp could have been finished and open by now.

No kidding........Unless the ramp has a melting system, cost of clearing it is high and unreliable for the accessibility community. Another example of only one elevator for the accessibility community who continue to get lost in the able body mind thinking. I am able body, but seen far too many issues the accessibility community faces daily over my life.
