Leslie Street Spit (Tommy Thompson park) is getting a new entrance!

Description: Tommy Thompson Park – Park Entrance, Pavilion and Grounds, construction. The Work of this Contract is the construction of a new Park Entrance Pavilion building, flanking paved trail-paths and plaza, adjacent outdoor parking compound, and including new landscaped grounds and surrounds, and all appurtenances, fixtures, equipment, systems, building and civil services, municipal functional servicing connections, to the extent and as documented and elaborated in the Construction Drawings and in the Construction Specifications Project Manuals, which constitute a fundamental component of this Tender Package.

That's great! More city dwellers need to visit the Spit. Would like to see a BIXI bike rental station and maybe an outdoor summer cafe at the entrance.

Except for the water fowl (swans, ducks), the warblers and jays are practically non-existent, at least to my eyes.

It is supposed to be a good time of year to spot owls there.

The City & TRCA have started building the new section of the Martin Goodman Trail from the road leading to the Outer Harbour Marina to the main entrance of Tommy Thompson park @ Leslie Street. It will be good to be able to avoid the 'dog-leg' section of Unwin that belongs to Ports Toronto. It's not a long stretch but the land looks quite boggy so I bet it will not get finished until very late fall or next spring.
