Handicap parking

On Saturday I tried to go visit Yorkdale mall, but when I got there, finding a parking spot for my car was impossible! But when I looked at the handicap parking zone, these spots were empty! Nobody ever uses them!!

It's the handicap spot's fault that the parking lot was full! If people like me can't park there, then how are we supposed to spend money and help the economy? This is why Toronto is dieing!!!

Clearly these underused parking spots need to be changed to general parking!

I've said for a long time that the handicap lobby in the city is way too powerful. An incredibly small part of the population is disabled, and yet they get all these concessions built with my taxpayer money.

While your argument may not be very valid in 10 years as we have a mass demographic shift towards seniors, I still don't think it holds much water. Handicap parking isn't to reserve parking for handicapped people, it's to ensure their parking spot is as close to the entrance to whatever building it is as possible, and that they have enough room to exit their vehicle while using mobility devices. Unless you'd want a disabled person scratching your car as they attempt to exit theirs in a wheelchair, I don't think you should be complaining.

Are people in wheelchairs really going to be out and about when there's a foot of snow on the ground? They are usually plowed and kept clear, like other parking spots - and sidewalks.

I live at a condo at Keele and teh 401. We have a busy full scale medical centre and a walk-in clinic on the ground floor. It is the only medical centre in Toronto that has parking who does not have any handicap parking at all.

It is because teh developer, Joe Ieradi, did not have to put it in by law. It is because of creeps like him that these laws were passed.

The City is now requiring accessible parking be provided in condo buildings. Not only that, they're requiring a ton of accessible parking (more than current demand). The issue (outside of the fact that they cost more to build) is that people can end up owning a space they do not have a legal right to park in. When questioned on their logic and whether they fully thought through the implications of their policy they did the professional equivalent of putting their hands over their ears and saying "LALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU". Very odd.

Strangely enough, projects with valet parking in the City are not exempt from providing accessible parking. I'm not sure what's more accessible than getting out at your front door and handing your keys to someone, but what do I know...

there are other disabilities people can have that are not obvious, nor require wheelchairs specifically.
also, a portion of the handicapped permit holders are seniors who have mobility issues.
i believe they've worked and paid their fair share of taxes of the decades !

Pretty much everyone with disabilities is collecting welfare and disability benefits, not working at an important job like an important person such as myself!

In fact, I did a study, I stood outside Toronto General Hospital this afternoon, which is probably the wheelchair capital of Canada, and doctor capital of Canada. And even here, I couldn't find one doctor who is wheelchairbound! (you can tell who is a doctor because doctors always have stethoscopes around their necks)

Doesn't that just about prove it? These people are freeloaders and they want all the best parking spots too! This city is going down the tubes, and this is proof! Thank your clownsillor at socialist silly hall!!
