Greyhound: Apart from that, how was your experience today?

Likely true, but no everyone might share your absolute faith in the system and in the abilities and motives of its appointed experts.

Imo, we should always challenge or question what we're fed by govt experts. At the G20, the police and govt IMO were suprised when the people challenged their assumed status of unquestionable experts in crowd control and policing.

And no, I 'm not suggesting any notion of paranoid conspiracy theories. Only that we should have a questioning nature when the govt tells us what to believe.

Yeah sure, I wasn't suggesting we never question gov't. I wasn't responding directly to electrify, just making a comment about the hysteria surrounding this news elsewhere. I don't understand why some people, including within the government itself, including several MPs and MPPs, would completely dismiss the opinions of mental health experts on a mental health issue.

Given your thoughts above, what do you think of the latest news, unescorted day passes,
http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/man-wh...gets-unescorted-trips-from-hospital-1.1707209

I suppose my position still remains the same. While it is great that he has made so much progress, the thought of him unsupervised is somewhat unsettling. That said, these are only short trips into the community unsupervised, where he will be well supervised and medicated before releases. If he is up for a full discharge, with no one making sure he is taking his meds, then it will be time to panic.

Also, does anyone know what the chances of him destabilizing are? I'm on meds to control ADHD and OCD, and I know what it is like to see their effectiveness destabilize (assuming they ever did fully stabilize me in the first place...). Obviously this is an apples to oranges comparison, but is still worth considering. Let's not forget that not only is it rare for schizophrenia to make someone violent, but it is extremely rare for it to make someone as violent as it did Vince Li. How does this factor into his prospects for destabilizing?

Finally, and I know this may be a controversial perspective, but in an interview I read with him a few years back he still seems to be religious and believes in God. Of course he realizes that was not God speaking to him that night as he believed at the time, but I could see a scenario where the "real" God comes to visit Li and tells him to stop taking his medication. Then we can watch the havoc begin yet again... This isn't to say that God doesn't exist or that those who believe in him are insane, but considering his mental state I would feel more comfortable if he took a more laid back approach to spirituality than he seems to be taking.

I would not feel comfortable being anywhere near him, and I'm sure the majority of people in Canada would think so. This guy should not be in the public realm at all.

Aside from the grisly details of this horrible incident, I still can't believe this happened 8-1/2 years ago. I still remember vividly hearing this story as it broke in the news. It's even harder to believe that this very man will be walking free in society already.
