What else can they do? They've really pushed their luck by not having the original closures as planned.

I think the issue is a lack of communication on this based on an assumption everyone is terminally online and following every update they make.
I shared it this morning on our general all-office Teams chat and a few people have already popped in to say they had no idea it was happening.

There's going to be a lot of people who show up to Lakeshore West stations on Monday with no clue this sudden change is happening.
 
I am loathe to defend Metrolinx, for any reason, but it was mentioned on here previously that the order to defer the closures came from the MTO.

But yes, deferring critical work so that sports fans don't suffer any disruptions is pretty stupid and short sighted. I'm sure it would be great PR if a critical bridge failure were to happen during the playoffs. Morons.

I don't give two ****s which government ministry/agency gave the order - as far as I am concerned it's the Premier's Office that can pound sand.

That's just absurd. How can the inconvenience on the weekend, possibly be worse that during rush-hour? The complete stupidity continues at the Ontario government and it's agencies.

I wonder if the VIA trains are detouring up the CN mainline via Milton and Georgetown. Which might explain why London still has service, and not Oakville.

Though I guess they could skip Brantford and run through St. Marys and Kitchener as well.
 
Unlike some here, I'm ok with them accommodating the Blue Jays games. But I agree the Monday closure should have been communicated better. Like I said, commuters can WFH from a day. A Blue Jay fan can't experience it in person from home.
 
They basically waited until the Jays blew it Friday night to announce the Sun-Mon closure If the Jays won, I’m sure they would have proceeded with the Sat-Sun closure instead.

Could they have been a bit more proactive and laid out the two different scenarios last week? Yes. At least everyone would know what would happen depending on game 6.

Going to work is a job; baseball is entertainment - and not everyone has the option of working from home (and even if that option exists, it isn't necessarily something you can just do without some warning).

Just out of curiousity, what was the reason behind changing the rail replacement services to run from the two LSW stations to Bramalea instead of Union? I travelled on one of these closures last time with no Oakville-Union LSW services, but at least you ended up in Union although it did take longer on the road vs rail. The QEW was being nice too and we were actually moving quite smoothly.

Unfortuately I need to travel from St. Catharines to Union today so I was thinking of getting off at West Harbour, then a quick transfer on the HSR to Hamilton GO Centre for the 16 to Union.
 
I am also loathe to defend ML, but the Jays' series presented a real challenge - had they won, there would have been victory celebrations that would have likely necessitated further deferrals.

ML really didn't know its plan until the World Series played out. I bet they were responding in real time just like the Jays' manager.

Sorry to see the Jays lose, but at least now ML can get on with its work.
