GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Any word on ridership figures for the summer and long weekend Niagara Falls GO Train? I took the train from Burlington to St. Catharines last Victoria Day weekend but it was difficult to gauge the ridership with fewer cars and some of the trains retrofitted for bikes.

But oddly not the most useful service - reverse peak, leaving some odd gaps in the schedule (which is up on GO's site already, along with all the other June schedule).

Shame they aren't stopping at Scarborough/Danforth. Rather annoying for someone coming from Markham who needs to change to head east on Lakeshore.

It's the best that can be done until the double tracking is finished.

That's not exactly a great schedule for AM commuters - there's a 58 minute gap in the middle of the AM rush, followed by a 66 minute gap. The current schedule has five trains that get in before 8:59, the new one only has three.

Current schedule (bolded times mean orginating at Unionville):
http://www.gotransit.com/timetables/en/PDF/Timetables/04170617/Table71.pdf

Trains leave Lincolnville at 5:15, 5:54, 6:34, 6:41, 7:13, 7:41, and 8:11
Trains leave Unionville at 5:47, 6:27, 7:07, 7:14, 7:46, 8:14, 8:44, 9:49.

New schedule:
http://www.gotransit.com/timetables/en/PDF/Timetables/06170917/Table71.pdf

Trains leave Lincolnville at 5:54, 6:34, 7:13, 8:11, 9:17, 10:14
Trains leave Unionville at 6:27, 7:07, 7:46, 8:44, 9:49, 10:46, 11:46, 12:46, 13:46, 14:46, 15:46

There are going to be some seriously pissed off people when the 7:14 doesn't show up, and they have to wait an additional half hour.

I believe there may be an error there - they have 9 trains making the return trip to Lincolnville in the evening but only 6 departing in the morning. I doubt they deadhead those 3 back, that hasn't been how they operated trips to Lincolnville at all before, they always move into the yard and park for the evening.

Minor service issue at Oshawa Go Station...lack of ability to buy food...given there is nothing at all close to the station (maybe 1km to the nearest food), it's super frustrating to show up after biking on the weekend only to find that the kiosk that is open on weekdays is closed on the weekend, the vending machines only take coins, there is no bank machine...and most annoyingly the ticket booth guy can't give cash back...if you took a bus or a taxi you are in the same situation...drink out of the sink in the bathroom....

As an end-point for numerous travel methods and given that people are waiting sometimes for 30 minutes....making sure they had some kind of food options would be nice...

There seems to be a real lack of automated machines in Canada for services, period. No bank machine at a train station?

Theres no machines to buy PRESTO at the UNION TTC station. I realize you can go to GO concourse but its like a huge trek through Union, and the kiosk that sells them in the Union TTC is closed on sundays.

What year are we living in again?

The fact that there aren't zipcars to rent, bank machines, automated Presto selling machines, automated Bike share rentals, vending machines, etc etc at nearly every GO station is ridiculous.

That portion of the PDF is quite incorrect. All of the trains that run today will continue to run after the 28th, and their schedules are not being adjusted, save for the 9.49 Unionville train which is being extended to start at Lincolnville. All of the additional trains that have been added to the schedule are correct, however.

I would assume that they will have a corrected one uploaded by the official announcement next week.

I assume weekend service is still off the table for Stouffville, presumably until double tracking is done?
