GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Oakville GO renovations starting this month! Can't find any specific diagrams or renders anywhere yet though.

There are renderings that have been circulated internally among various firms involved and will likely be shared at some point.

Kenaidan and Murphy are the contractors for the project through a Joint Venture. RVA is the prime consultant with various other companies also involved with it as subs.

As for the station the platforms are going to be redone similar to other recent GO stations. The parking lot is having sections fully rebuilt and others resurfaced along with some changes to the bus loop. The pedestrian bridge is going to connect into the parking garage on the west side and have connections to all the platforms.

In the view of the Barrie line where it goes north toward the site of the Bloor-Lansdowne GO station, after the 'grubbing' there's more space on both sides of the existing track than I thought.

I had assumed the new second track would simply go along the east side of the existing one. But supposedly the plan is to eventually have a trail/railpath there, so maybe it will be more complicated?

I will never get over how the Barrie line, which has the potential to relieve some of the most congested highways in the province, currently looks like something the neighbourhood parents built in a backyard alleyway for a child's birthday party.

I wonder if we can expect the usual Metrolinx display of planning and intelligence of demolishing all the shelters at the station all in one go and taking months after their construction for only a couple of them to be opened, Milton style. Thank God the warmer months are upon us.

Metrolinx says Burloak Drive will close next month for ten days as part of the grade separation work.

From the above notice:
We need to close the entire road and the sidewalks to bring the new rail tracks into service on the new bridge, relocate and pave the at-grade railway crossing on the Burloak detour road, and install storm sewers south of the Burloak and Harvester Dr./Wyecroft Dr. intersection.

^This^. How is it in 2026 we don't even have at least hourly bidirectional trains during rush hour?

There will be “maintenance” on retaining walls in the Stouffville corridor.

At 4:30pm today piles were being dropped off at West Highland Creek. Big upgrades? I doubt it. Annoying busy work on a years delayed project? Sure.

I want to be wrong.
FML....they could've easily done most of this retaining walll work over night instead of shutting down an entire line.

The LSE line is completely shut down this weekend too. Quite often, both ST and LSE major weekend closures are in sync. The removal of all weekend service on the ST during the pandemic was blown opportunity (50 to 100 major weekend closures) to make the ST have any possible pilot project installed, all the grade separations completed, pouring concrete and wiring up OCS footings etc. but it is what it is.

I’m hopeful Metrolinx is using the downtime to crush out unsexy state of good repair (SOGR) work among other things. I often see heavy machinery and contractors at various points on the line when driving around doing errands during weekend closures.

The minor repair project at Kennedy GO is supposed to wrap up this weekend along with some pedestrian level crossing safety upgrades.

Nothing exciting but work that has to get done regardless otherwise you end up like the TTC-esque SOGR backlog.

I believe this has already been addressed a while ago. Closures are scheduled many months in advance, no? It's not really possible to schedule work at a moment's notice when a force majeure shuts down service.

The City of Toronto and the TTC were able to take advantage of low traffic and ridership to speed up projects.

Seizing opportunities before they slip through your fingers comes down to the ability to quickly change execution of your strategy, redo your budget and how assertive vs. passive the managers are (do they actually care).

Does anyone know the status of the package of other Stouffville line grade separations (mostly in Scarborough)? It would be nice to see progress on these even if we don't get better service for years and years. I was on the train that hit the dump truck last year, so any safety improvements are welcome.
