Not sure I agree, the Ontario line is being tunneled through pretty competent bedrock (Georgian Bay Formation Shale). I would assume you could do the same for Alto. Might be a little deep, but workable.

I found the screenshots from the Maple Station public consultation about the proposed pedestrian entrance from the west side of the tracks (from this post):
For some reason none of them acknowledged the irony of being outraged about a railway station entrance from Railway Street.
Here was Metrolinx's response:

Good to see the replacement work going ahead, make no mistake about that.
What I will say is that Metrolinx' and the TTC's continuing lack of co-ordination for these weekend closures is seriously baffling.
Yes critical repair/replacement work is needed, but the fact that the TTC decided to shut down the Bloor-Danforth line between Jane and Ossington, combined with the Lakeshore West line terminating at Mimico at the same time, makes it a pain for anyone travelling to the west-end.

Girder installation @ the bridge over Logan Ave is complete. At first I thought they didn't finish because of the gap. But after zooming in, it looks like GO and Ontario Line will be treated as two separate bridges, at least with how they're doing the girders.

This LinkedIn post confirms there's a team at Metrolinx planning the expansion of Milton line service. I know there are several frequent contributors who are anxious that they stop planning and start construction but at least we have confirmation that planning work (for example, preliminary design and environmental assessment) is going on. Also, noticed that they have a specific team looking at a pipeline of projects for future decades, which Ms. Yang is now running.

Good to have this out there; as I think some people have wondered if my posts suggesting this was ongoing were a bit suspicious!
Btw, last I checked, they were at the IBC stage for the most part, though there are some parallel processes going on.
PS, like every other IBC, we already know the result. LOL

Compared to the the second photo in this post from a few months back of the Barrie line, I think some trees and shrubs might have been cut down in the area beside the railway track towards the fence that separates it from the back of the French-language high schools. I assume this likely indicates some intention to start work towards a second track in the coming months.

It would make sense for them to start grading work there considering there's grading in progress both north and south of that site.
Here's a quick scan of the construction progress shown in the May 2025 aerial image on Google Earth. The french school is the gap just north of where the Barrie line splits off the Kitchener line.
"Grading in progress" means earthworks are happening
" Track installed" means there are rails and ties in place, but not necessarily tamped etc
I'm quite excited by the progress between Maple and Rutherford. Rutherford station is complete with the 2nd track installed, Maple station is almost complete with the 2nd track installed, and grading is well underway for the adjacent segments. So it looks like we could have 13.5 km of continuous double track in service by the end of this year. That track isn't enough on its own to allow 30-minute bidirectional service, but it would make it possible to run two trains back-to-back every hour. For example, instead of the Barrie trains just being extensions of certain hourly trains to Aurora, they could run separate express trains to Barrie in addition to the hourly local trains to Aurora.

I'm only on this line a few times a year, but on December 24, while going north, we were twice passed by GO Trains headed south, I think at points somewhere between Downsview Park and King City stations.

That does currently happen using the two separate double-track segments but one of those trains is always not in service due to the requirement to sit in the Maple siding for a while. Making one continuous double-track segment would eliminate that delay, making the deadhead trips useful for passengers.
