GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Will never happen nor should it. as there is no demand for one up to Dixie Rd. To Cloverdale, yes that should happen, but can it be done in 5 years??
The point would be to relieve pressure off MiWay and the dundas street busses. I think if Richmond Hill can get one and Scarborough get two, we can connect Square One to Bloor Yonge.

The "they got one we deserve one" attitude is the road to ruin.....financial ruin if not general ruin!

Not only is there no obvious need for a subway to Mississauga.....there isn't even a loud shout for one....or even a quiet shout.

And there won’t be. The roads west of Etobicoke Creek are handling the bus traffic OK. It’s east of 427 that things get painful. A routing to Square One will not take buses off the road in Mississauga, because the collection area for TTC bound buses is too large. Cloverdale makes a lot of sense - but not further.

The more worthwhile investment would be 4 or 5 tracking the Milton Line for all day 2 way/RER? service. Added to the Hurontario LRT, that would be pretty good service to Square One, no?

Do you have any idea what ridership numbers are today, let alone 25 years from now???

If you want a subway to Sq One, how do you operate 2 cars trains on a 6 car line every 15 minutes at the best???

Why is ML wanting to build an BRT on Dundas compare to an LRT to Hurontario or a Subway???

It was never supposed to open for Pan Am. It was always scheduled to open after the Games had ended.

Toronto, Ont.

It was originally supposed to be completed in 2015.

"By early 2015 the extension was in danger of going off the rails. The cost, which had already jumped to $2.6 billion as the result of the decision to extend the line to the centre of Vaughan, was set to increase by another $400 million, and the opening date of 2016, already pushed back once, was deemed unachievable."

Okay chill, it's just a subway extension proposal. It's not necessarily a good one, but that doesn't really matter. If we're to assume maximum catchment, the subway to Square One would see about 10-20K passengers from the GO Bus terminal and 15-30K Passengers from the MiWay bus terminals at square one. It would also receive a good 10-20K daily riders from the Milton GO line. Since Islington station sees about 40K daily users and the main users of the station are those of MiWay, we can throw in another 15-25K daily passengers. So far, the usage of this 7-8 km line would be around 50-95K passengers per day based on existing ridership, which is already in fair daily ridership justifications for a subway. When you consider that ridership usually doubles along corridors with subways or new higher order transit built (Sheppard Subway), then you can increase that range to probably around 75K - 145 K PPD. If these basic numbers are remotely accurate, there is a business case here, and it's stronger than that of the Scarborough subway.

Mimico Station update from the local residents association:

Metrolinx hosted a meeting today to share, among other things, the latest information on upcoming improvements to the Mimico GO station. Below is a summary of what we learned about Mimico GO station. Metrolinx will be hosting a public meeting on July 5th at Mimico Presbyterian Church to share this and more. Stay tuned for details.

Highlights of the improvements include:
- a new station building.
- Two new east and west tunnels, with elevator and stair access to platform level.
- Accessible north and south entrance buildings with a new passenger pick-up and drop-off area on Manchester street.
- Rehab of existing platforms, including heated shelters.
- Revisions to existing parking lot, including bike lanes, pedestrian walkways and bike shelters.

We were happy to hear that Metrolinx has considered in their plans the connection to the Greenway (multi-use trail adjacent to north side of tracks) as well as the Royal York overpass that is part of the Mimico Judson Secondary Plan. One area of concern is that the new South Entrance is pending property agreement with Toronto Community Housing. If an agreement cannot be reached there will be no south entrance.

Construction is anticipated to start in 2020 and finish by 2023.

Here is a pic of that constructed and, seemingly, soon to be unconstructed canopy on the north side of EX station. Yes the path is narrow but opening will still aid people flow until the permanent solution arrives

If that tunnel extension was open maybe this would not be the scene trying to get to the tunnel >15 minutes after a match played in a 2/3 (at most) full stadium.
