GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

^ I meant that the 2nd track work continues because looking that the picture it's not complete for this portion yet.

They actually completed the track through the station quite some time ago - 2 years now? - and then cut sections of it out and moved the materials aside to build the tunnels and other subterranean infrastructure.

Most recent 401/409 tunnel construction picture and at angle that can't really be replicated from public property.

Scaled with deep learning AI. Why do these organizations always take such tiny photos?

^Just a guess, but it looks like they are driving in some piles, likely for stability. My guess would be they are about to excavate. There is a short section of track with wood ties, which might have been done deliberately as a removable panel, knowing that the excavation would come later.. When the work is complete, they will fill in with the “real” concrete ties and ribbon rail.

One of the shots shows an oval wier which is a portal for the signalling conduits. There’s a
piece of plywood and two pylons guarding what is likely a small excavated hole in about the same plane a bit further up. Could have been done to expose the conduit so it wouldn’t be accidentally damaged when the main digging begins.

That temporary track panel has a third “guard“ rail....my theory would be there is soil instability or ground water issues to address.

The aspect ratio seems off as well, like a 4:3 frame from a 16:9 anamorphic video shot with an older DV cam. If so, that would explain the low res and poor image quality.

Next to no warning that a southbound UPX was to arrive. Uselessly its a few minutes, not seconds.

What do you mean "next to no warning"? Did a UPX train come across this and have to reverse and switch tracks? Was this just general maintenance or are they adding more track on the Milton Line side?

The air horn sounded as the southbound UPX show it nose coming around the curve and less than 30 seconds. It was on the north track. Every RR site I been on, warning is given between 2-5 minutes based on what taking place. Heard a lot of AM train horns (4?) today for the Milton Trains at Cooksville station and way more than the odd train once a week or less in the past.

Looks like they have removed a few switches and this track could be use for track 7 & 8. Haven't seen much work in the corridor for adding more tracks.

They were given advance warning well in advance of the horn. The trains are required to radio in to the foreman for clearance. Only once clearance has been given by the foreman can the train proceed through.

The horn is sounded solely at the clearance limits, which in this case is a pretty small area.
