Finch West Line 6 LRT

From an Etobicoke point of view this makes sense.
From a Mammolitti point of view, he should campaign for an elevated Finch. He has enough political capital to survive this, and he should know that subway will never happen.

Subway won't happen in that corridor, but I don't see elevated LRT fitting there, either.

It's either the current LRT plan in street median, or simply running a combination of local and express buses.

Mammolitti has enough political capital to survive anything. Unfortunately, his constituents will keep re-electing him time and time again regardless of what he says and does until the time he decides doesn't want to run again.

Please educate me but from a provincial funding point of view wouldn't the Hamilton and Hurontario LRT's be sacrificed first before the Finch West LRT?

IMO opinion cancelling the Finch West LRT would be really harmful and set back transit in Toronto for decades. This doesn't include the sunk cost already spent on the Finch West LRT preconstruction.

How much did it cost the city when it cancelled the Eglinton subway expansion under Harris leadership? How can we make a comparison to that cancellation and a Finch West LRT cancellation?

For now - the demographics of the ward will be changing. That is if the OPP investigation didn't nail him first.

Nothing to cancel really for those two. They simply don't do anything.

Finch West goes right Drug Fraud's riding ... and he's spoken vehemently against it, and was quoted yesterday by another politician as planning to cancel it. Not sure how the sequencing of events is important really.

Of course it would be - why is why anyone who supports transit would never vote for Drug Fraud - even if didn't have all the corruption, bigotry, and misogyny issues attached to him.

But the Liberals also support bad transit, like the SSE and the Kirby GO station.

They may not be corrupt per se. But they have lost the plot.

They've certainly lost some major plot threads - I'll give you that. And the delays to the Finch and Sheppard East LRTs are absurd. Not to mention the $150 million or so in penalties and extra costs to replace the Bombardier vehicles with Alstom ones - even though they won't need the first 17 or so vehicles (for Finch West) until 2023 - and now have confidence that Bombardier can churn out all 70+ Eglinton cars for 2021.

A good case for supporting a party with a better transit plan, I'll agree. The Conservatives, ironically, had a somewhat passable one - that they flushed down the toilet a few weeks ago.

The NDP ... always seem to be more worried about preserving current union jobs, than capital spending. However I'm eager to see their complete platform - perhaps they'd be better at implementing the Liberal's road plan than the Liberals!

I'm really hoping for an NDP surge. I just don't see how they can win suburban seats though in the GTA.

I thought I recall reading a number in the $40-50M range - that was likely construction cancellation and not lost design effort.

In terms of cancellation, I imagine Ford may add a criteria that Council must support by 2/3, just to ensure that project not cancelled. The problem when is what happens with SSE, that did not have 2/3 support.

Regarding Kirby GO Station, there are rumor of the area being targeted for the construction of a 15-20k soccer stadium for the Canadian Premier League. So just like VMC, there's little merits to Kirby GO outside of local politicians wanting to use scarce resources for city building.

I had figured they would just play at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

Included in EX33.2 Expanded Gaming at Woodbine Racetrack - City Conditions, at this link, was this amendment:

7b - Motion to Amend Item (Additional) moved by Councillor Anthony Perruzza (Carried)

That City Council direct the Chief Planner and Executive Director, City Planning to continue best efforts with Metrolinx and Woodbine Entertainment Group to advance the extension of the Finch West LRT from Humber College to the airport serving the Woodbine area.

From link:

Coun. Perruzza’s motion that the city “continue best efforts” toward extending Finch LRT to the Woodbine casino area CARRIES 35-7.

Mammoliti was one of the 7 opposed to the amendment. No surprise.
