Edgewater sign defaced by taggers

Re: t

so just what are you saying it almost seems that now your saying that I cannot be considered an artist.

I guess what drives me nuts is when people feel the need to constantly attach the word vandalism to the word graffiti, just like attaching artist seems to tick you off.

I'm not a vandal, I'm an artist no matter what anyone says.

Re: t

Art is what artists do, and if that's what you do then you're an artist, paraone.

There! Happy now?

Re: t

Yes I am happy now.

I think I will go tag a train on my way home from my studio.

Re: t

Just keep your spray cans away from my house, dear.

Re: t

BTW, I think I'm your neighbour....

wasn't it you that ives in riverdale?

Do you remember the dollar store at the side of Logan/Danforth about 10 years ago?

that was me, I had permission

Re: t

You're in Riverdale too?

I don't remember the dollar store. Was it on the south east corner, where that coffee shop is now?

Re: t

I'm not a vandal, I'm an artist no matter what anyone says.

But if an "artist" does their thing on property belonging to someone else, or the city, without permission, it is vandalism.

Re: t

Vandalism is merely about property rights. Art is about truth. Graffiti is about personal expression, which isn't necessarily about art, violates property rights and doesn't necessarily reveal any truths. I'd rather have the side of my house violated by Picasso's 'Guernica' than by some derivative piece of "graffiti art" produced in the technically correct aerosol manner that defines "graffiti art", or by tagging.

Re: t

I dunno, Guernica invoked on behalf of some Starbucksian kitsch doesn't necessarily sound any more appetizing than graffiti...

Re: t

I'm not a vandal, I'm an artist no matter what anyone says.
Well, you're certainly delusional.

And I hope you're joking about tagging trains, because I don't see the humour.

Re: t

jeeez....

read my posts, I never said a vandal was an artist....
I was defending myself when it was proposed that because I work in the style with the tools of the culture doesn't make me a vandal. Maybe we should read the post first, feindish so we can pick up the sarcasim.

Babel, yes where the coffee shop is. I grew up on Carlaw right across from the hockey rink. Now I'm at Queen/Broadview.

Re: t

Point taken, but I have no tolerance for anyone who justifies or defends despoiling public property in the name of "art". In light of recent TTC arrests of said "artists" (see the tagger thread in Transportation), the very notion of tagging trains, even in jest, strikes me as being stupid and distasteful, to say the least.

Re: t

I'm not about to relive this entire thread....

1. vandals are not artists
2. I don't advocate the destruction of anyones property
3. graffiti art is not tagging
4. tagging is not what is considered graffiti art, it's vandalism
5. tagging is the ugly step sister nobody wants to talk about.
6.have a sense of humor

Re: t

You said the words I wanted to hear. Five out of six ain't bad. The last I'll just chalk up to a thin skin.
