Yes, none paved but I assume they need to finish the heavy machinery work first as that would tear up new paving. The path needs minimal grading but paving can be done quite fast.

This bridge work is in Phase 2 of the East Don trail. It is north of Eglinton.

Work continues on the underpass on the East Don trail. I wasn’t able to make my first trip through this morning so I’ll have to return.

I don’t know if the image captures the drop between the bridge and underpass. It is a tight turn with speed so I expect the occasional collision will occur here.

I saw someone share a photo in the "Cycling in Toronto" Facebook group yesterday saying it was reopened again? Guess we'll have to deal with intermittent closures for the time being.

Maybe they could add a big mirror to help people see around the bend?

I thought the same but the line of sight might not be too bad.

I would be more worried about the growth on the corner coming down the steep hill near Bermondsey pushing riders more to the centre of the path at speed and/if two slow riders / walker approach passing on the uphill.

A nice improvise from mountain bikers.

Someone added a safety net.

PHASE 1 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: SUMMER 2025​

The pedestrian tunnel was installed over the weekend of May 30-June 2, 2025, with work continuing to progress, including grading of the approaches on both sides of the tunnel and restoration of the areas impacted by construction (i.e. topsoil, seeding, and plantings).

Work will commence for the installation of the north and south boardwalks for Bridge 1, along with final restoration and paving required to complete the section of trail leading to the tunnel. The remaining work is anticipated to be completed by early Winter 2025. See figure 2.

The final paving works in the section of trail from Bermondsey Road to the finished portion of the West Approach Pedestrian-Cycle Bridge will commence simultaneously with the final paving from the Taylor Massey Creek Bridge to the newly installed tunnel.

Members of the public are reminded to adhere to restricted areas for their own safety throughout the duration of construction.

I feel like this would have been a good chunk of work to do while we waited for Metrolinx's installation window.

They wouldn't do that because the pavement for a bike trail doesn't typically have a road-grade base. Its not presumed to have to handle the weight of big trucks etc.

So they want the heavy equipment out before they pave.

If you live on a street with a lot of condo construction you could see that our regular roads can't handle the weight of big trucks either.

I went by the East Don Trail yesterday on the way to Ride The Meadoway and made a couple of observations.

1. Some ground remediation work has been done now that the tunnel has been put in place since late May.

2. Some wooden planks were placed inside the tunnel. Not sure why, but still worth highlighting.

From your photo I think the wood on the floor of the new 'tunnel' is to protect the concrete. They are probably still using tracked work vehicles while they finish the landscaping and they can ruin concrete very fast.

Of note, the bridge at the southern most end of the East Don Trail has been gated and chained. It appears they are mobilizing to work on the balance of the trail south of the new tunnel. You can still access the trail via Taylor Massey Creek and some foot paths. The new grading and landscaping around the tunnel looks great as well.

The paving started yesterday. From what us mtbrs call the 'Motown tunnel' to just short of the 'bridge to nowhere' is now paved. Tunnel is open
