Not sure if this belongs here, but there is very little regarding Durham region here...

For anyone following Pickering's mayor electoral race and transit related topics, there are 3 candidates, two of which support the Kingston rd BRT project (Kevin Ashe, Brad Nazar). The latter apparently currently advises Phil Verster with Metrolinx; has anyone here on UT ever heard of him or projects he would have been involved in? Just looking for an informed decision when voting. Disappointed to hear the third candidate (Frampton) wants to revisit the project in lieu of improving north/south transit. Sounds like the typical study it forever and nothing will happen. Not to mention utility relocation work has already begun on the project.

says hes an "issues manager" in the office of the ceo. sounds like an administrative position
alternatively he was deputy chief of staff to the minister of finance for 3 months. curious.
 
DRT is currently taking delivery of 11 new diesel-electric hybrid buses. They're quite similar to the ones the TTC has, and they were purchased through the Metrolinx Transit Procurement Initiative.



DRT expects to take delivery of six battery-electric buses in 2024. They will split the order between the top ranked proponents. Apparently only New Flyer and Nova Bus bid on the RFP, so they could be getting three from each manufacturer.
 
From the recent transit meeting :

DRT has reached an agreement with Nova Bus for the purchase of six twelve-metre battery electric buses with an expected delivery date for the end of 2024, as part of the e-bus pilot project.

Also encouraging news at roughly 80 percent pre pandemic levels
 
sucks how neglected Durham is on here, especially with zero information on all those developments on Taunton , but In the YRT 2023 Report, Durham "expressed Interest to introdcue services into Cornell Bus Terminal". Wonder how that would look

No one is discriminating against Durham Region or DRT; we do, in fact have some posters from that neck of the woods that contribute.

However, most of us don't live out that way, or get by there that often, and taking that into account, I think you'll find we have a pretty fulsome number of Durham threads on the go.

If that's your community of interest, please feel free (no snark intended) to contribute by taking pics/providing updates on the threads of interest to you.

Since you can't start new threads yet, if there's a development you'd like to see covered, you can message one of us to look into that for you; @Paclo is probably your best bet.

To update this thread, DRT is introducing service changes that’ll take effect on September 5th. Major highlights include:

  • Route 216C is extended to the Audley Library and Recreation Centre via Williamson Drive
  • Combined together, route 216/216C on Harwood Ave North will run every 15 mins from 6:30-19:15 on weekdays
  • Route 301 in Whitby replaces On-Demand service in Lynde Creek and Williamsburg neighbourhoods, every 30 mins
  • Route 319 in Whitby expanded to all-day service on Garden and Anderson Streets
  • New Route 421 in Oshawa from Oshawa GO to Courtice via Bloor St, rush hour only
  • New Route 507 between Bowmanville, Newcastle and Orono; every hour, rush hour only
  • Route 920 will run along Milner Avenue between Morningside Rd and Progress Ave instead of Sheppard Ave
  • Westbound buses will drop off passengers at Town Centre Court by the YMCA. Eastbound buses will pick up passengers at Platform 1 in the Scarborough Centre Bus Terminal
  • 15-minute service reinstated from 6:00-19:00, new late-night trips added
Quite a few stop re-locations and removals are also set to occur with many routes having re-routings.
