I agree with the original post. There is a way to tell like ARG1 mentioned but you figure it out as a regular driver. These are not obvious signs for a driver new to Ontario.
On a similar note, signs like these are hard to read at high speed.
They should show separate big arrows for each individual lane instead of lumping multiple lanes in one arrow. Also, they should have a gantry with a marking over each telling if that particular lane is exiting left or going straight or exiting right. These type of signs are common in many other places including Interstates in the US.
