Church-Wellesley Village

Chaps was my Friday and Saturday night hangout when I moved to Toronto. Many, many awesome memories there. (1991-1993)

And I believe Chaps was actually the upstairs bar and Badlands was the downstairs bar at what is now Rabba's on Isabella.

Yes, Badlands! I searched my memory for the name of the downstairs bar but I just couldn't think of it. We did Sunday brunch at Badlands a few times, it was weird!

Are you guys sure Woody's didn't take over this spot and then moved over to Church or is my memory playing tricks.

My mind plays tricks on me sometimes too, so I checked on the interwebs.

Woody’s is located in the heart of Toronto’s Boystown. Since opening in 1989, Woody’s and its brother bar Sailor (located next door) have become Toronto’s busiest and hottest gay men’s bars. A large and cavernous complex with five bars, Woody’s features nightly D.J.’s, men’s contests Thursday through Saturday (Best Chest, Best Ass, Best Legs), a pool table and 21 video monitors showing some of the sexiest images around. Woody’s enjoys added recognition for being featured in the popular television series “Queer as Folkâ€. As an added bonus, Priape – Canada’s favourite gay store featuring leatherwear, club wear, porn and toys is right above the Sailor bar. Woody’s front windows open up on Church Street providing a great view on Canada’s busiest and friendliest gay village.

(edit: Priape moved last year to 501 Church).

Now I thought Woody's opened in the mid-80's, so there's my mind playing tricks on me.

I imagine Crews Tango probably reincorporated. They've had enough liquor infractions (as we all know the Police tend to pick on gay bars and cite them for things like having 2 more people than capacity) and a reincorporation would wipe the slate clean.

was walking up yonge street thursday night around 6:30 and saw someone coming out of remingtons...not sure if it's re-opened or if it was someone who has an interest in the premises just leaving...i didn't have time to investiage

anyone hit the barn over the weekend?

looks like they've made some bold changes as far as their thursday-saturday night scheds

interested to see how it went

also wondering if anyone here knows the ins and outs of the zoning laws in the village...was once told that remingtons could never relocate to the village or that a new strip club couldn't open because that area is not zoned for adult entertainment......and yet the barn is now having live sex shows on the third floor on thursday nights....just seems a little strange  maybe it's because the barn is south of wellesley and in a different zone?

I was in The Village tonight (Thursday) around 8pm and the place was pretty active. All the patios were full of people having a good time. Although I keep hearing reports of how The Gay Village is becoming more straight, I didn't see any sign of that today. Probably 90% of the people on Church Street were gay men. All that talk of The Village losing it's gay mojo, is all just wishful thinking. I don't think there's a gayer few blocks on the planet.

I was in the barn last friday night around 11:30pm. It was dead. So we went to fly. It was packed. Brent Everett is HOT!

On warm nights you can't get a seat on a patio or a step and it gets busier come June-August with tourists and out of towners. Truth is, the area has changed but the sidewalks are still overflowing with testosterone and estrogen by night. The Village is alive and well.

I went into Dudley's Hardware a few days ago and asked if they carried Behr paints. The clerk replied, the only bear in here is me without any clothes on. Just thought I'd share that.
