They also had a sign that I didn't get a picture of, that said something along the lines of "Whites Kill Carribian Culture"

That seems to be a tiny little crowd. And were those protestors linked to the flap about who's running the festival?

Sometimes it helps if protest signs make reference to something.

Did they actually misspell Caribbean like that? It would be hilarious if they did.

I love how the sign says "Caribana's Black Ass Not For Sale" as if Caribana is strictly a "Black" event.

Sorry, I just realized I missed the "if" in that statement which makes it the opposite of what I was trying to say. Maybe Im getting old .

I've been to some of the websites that arranged the protest. Obviously their problem is with the fact that the city does not give enough support for an event that generates a lot of money for the city.

And they're right, of course.

Though the language of the protest is a bit ambiguous.

I agree.

When I implied it was racist, I was referring to the fact that Caribbean culture has heavy Chinese and Indian influences, among others. As far as the ethnic makeup goes, you'll find a lot of Indians in the Caribbean as well.

It's like saying a Canadian Cultural Festival is a "White" event. Can you imagine the uproar if that were to happen?
