Canada to cut back on visas and immigration permits to extended family

I would prefer that family class immigration be limited to core family (spouse, children only). If extended family want to visit they have a total of around 6 months of the year that they can visit. Around 75% of the US immigration (PR) is family class, and all that ends up happening -- is that the majority of immigrants that come to the country are family class - crowding out others that would be more beneficial (from a self-interest).

Logic?

If every "non-immigrant" in Canada was a PHD or Doctor of something or other there would be no more money available for Health Care it would simply be distributed differently. What was the cost to the taxpayer of the education you are so proud of? If you lost your job on Monday and were diagnosed with Cancer on Tuesday should we just roll you into the ditch?

Spoken like an ignorant sack of s#@*.
It's two sides of the same coin. Let's just blame immigrants for all the taxes "us Canadians" have to pay, but turn a blind eye to everything else that sucks taxes out of our wallets....
Moron.

I expect that nearly 100% of the MDs in Canada are either immigrants themselves or children, grandchildren or great grandchildren of immigrants. It's a country built by immigrants, so there should be no surprise that our MD population comes from the descendants of immigrants.

If you yourself recognize that Canada is a country built by immigrants, why the opposition to allowing entry to immigrants' extended family members into Canada? Immigrants have contributed and continue to contribute to Canada's prosperity, so we thank them by closing our borders to their family members?

When insecure in your position slag the opponent.

an excellent example:

The face of immigration is changing, and Canadians need to get used to this. The kind of migrants we want to attract aren't the ones who are desperate to come here. We're looking to attract the type of people who have options. As birth rates decrease, more and more nations are competing for a small pool of professional migrants. Canada needs programs like family reunification to attract the best and brightest here as opposed to Australia, the US, Europe, etc. Not to mention the fact that professionals in countries like India, China, etc. may no longer be as desperate to migrate, and may chose to stay put if they can't get the best deal here.
