Cabbagetown

There was a lot of construction noise coming from inside when I walked by the other day.

Anyone try the Brazilian place on the North side of the street?

And what is the coffee house behind Chew Chews? Is it part of the diner?

Cafune is awesome... You should definitely try it out... http://www.cabbagetowninfo.com/2012/12/11/new-business-cafune/

The coffee house behind Chew Chew is part of the diner... :)

Anyone been to Cabbagetown Brew? http://www.cabbagetowninfo.com/2012/12/10/new-business-cabbagetown-brew/

Anyone else watching the transformation of the Tipton House, shown here in a 2009 article http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life...etown-classic-seeks-new-owner/article4311179/ ?

This is very close to my house, and I love walking by and watching it being rebuilt. Now if we can just get that ugly green thing to the south fixed up.

I've been watching it... I slow down and stare at it every morning while driving by...

Apparently, they have stripped the interior down to the studs and removed a lot of the fire places and are opening up the interiors... I'm hoping it won't be a disaster...

EDIT: I should mention, when I started to see the construction, my biggest worry was that they are going to sever off the side lot and put another home on it... Doesn't look like that's the case... let's see what they are actually doing...

Winchester JR & SR PS

Just browsing the EQAO information for Winchester. The school went to a full French Immersion track last year, which (I imagine) would have quite an effect on the student body. Per the new 2012 EQAO stats (http://eqaoweb.eqao.com/eqaoweborgprofile/profile.aspx?_Mident=3298&Lang=E and http://eqaoweb.eqao.com/eqaoweborgp...mrXh4r8dcrYtKxDYdLHrszV3bY=&displayLanguage=E ) , it looks like performance is up quite a lot, and the demographics of the kids has changed as well.

Are any Cabbagetown parents able to chime in on the changes?

With the exception of mathematics, Winchester's EQAO scores are only for the English stream kids.

French Immersion students in the TDSB are not included in EQAO testing or reporting for reading comprehension or writing. They only partake in the mathematics testing portion.

Just month's after the Bargain Shop re-branded as "MyMark" they are going out of business. The location on Parliament has a going out of business sale - everything must go. Apparently the chain is in creditor protection and Dollarama is rumored to be interested in taking over many locations. Hopefully Parliament street will be one of them!

I finally had a chance to stop in to the new Rexall and was disappointed to see typical astronomical drug store chain prices mixed in with the small selection of loss leaders. It was, at least, less busy than Shoppers usually is. I will probably only go in to buy sale items when I visit the LCBO or am right at that corner for some other reason.

Has anyone heard news about the status of the old HOP site redevelopment? I haven't seen any progress that is visible from the street for two months, possibly longer.

I still see no progress on the houses at the old HoP location.

The former Cuurch Street Winery now has a building permit and liquor license application in the window.

The above mentioned restaurant will be called 420 Smokehouse (the address is 420 Parliament).

The main floor unit at the north-west corner of Parliament and Gerrard is also bein renovated.

420 smokehouse? It could be a bbq place, or it could be...something else.
