Bloor-Yorkville Scene

It’s also a great example of how trees and flowers make the streets look so much better. regardless of the surrounding architecture. And some cities DO have trees planted along every street. Toronto is just not good at that even though it’s getting a little better. Yonge needs it desperately.

Yonge from Queen to Gerrard will have trees by 2025; the section up to Bloor, all going well, ~2028

The material quality on the new cladding isn't bad; but I don't feel it offers sufficient compliment or contrast to the existing brick, it very much feels grafted on to the existing building. (which it is, but one might hope for a better illusion)

I do hope they:

a) get rid of the odd windows in the unit facing the plaza.

b) spruce up the plaza some.....it's really rather forlorn looking.
Agreed.
So they decided to add a wide blank panel below a wide blank course of brick (ignoring the proportions of the concrete banding separating the brick panels), in a colour that doesn't match or complement the brick or painted concrete banding above.

Cafe Landwer, open, doing a good trade on its patio along Bloor on July 31st, 2022:

As a side note, 2 very visible trees and a better illustration of the difference planting conditions make would be hard to find. One very healthy tree in the large open trench, one not-so-healthy tree in the much smaller pit.

Ultra high-tech modern facade renovation meets early 20th century cafe signage font.

Does anyone know who's leased 170 Bloor West (Park Hyatt ground floor). There are construction permits pulled but no tenant listed, the permits, however, seem to imply a tenant. It's 20k square feet which is ginormous by today's standards.

Project includes interior alterations for Group D occupancy subdivided in 2 levels, ground level 1 and second level. The work includes: interconnecting stair, bridge, LULA elevator, washrooms, 1 universal washroom, servery pantry, cafe, meeting rooms and private offices as well as other service rooms. Structural, Mechanical and electrical associated to this work.

Seems like an office - but even that feels surprising, considering everything else going on.

SoulCycle are leaving the Canadian market and shutting down their last remaining location at the Yorkville Village shopping centre:

If you're in Bloor-Yorkville between the 20th and the 28th, you can check out this year's Yorkville Murals event (at this link!!!)

The instagram video above is from one of the installations, this one on the rooftops at the W Hotel. Totally worth seeing; Hello Kirsten's work looks great and makes you think we should be doing that everywhere in the city!

Van Cleef & Arpels is opening @ 100 Bloor West

The spot next to Eately at 55 Bloor is also leased. Don't know to whom.

So wrap up of new retailers that haven't opened:
- Kith (Yorkville Ave)
- Reformation (Yorkville Ave)
- Ferragamo (Bloor)
- VC&A (Bloor)
- Alexander Wang (Bloor)

I Imagine this means that the Birks VC&A Bloor shop will close then? This could create a potentially much larger unit for the incoming 55 Bloor tenant.
