Bloor-Yorkville Scene

Finally some visible exterior updates to the Charles Promenade at Charles W and Yonge along Yonge St.

The Bogner store at the Colonnade has recently closed.

Although a major brand is said to have leased the space where Swarovski and Talbots used to be at the NW corner of Yonge & Bloor, which is expected to undergo substantial renovation at the base of the tower.

The article also mentions that Swarovski has secured a new location on Bloor. And that new tenants are on the way for the former Pottery Barn and Zegna spaces at 100 Bloor W.

More news will be expected soon for the former Club Monaco store building at Avenue & Bloor as well.

Cyme Tree Wellness Centre are opening in the space between Circle K and McDs at the base of the Exhibit Condos on Bloor, west of Avenue Rd:

While, a bit east of it there's going to be a McMaster University collaborative learning space opening:

Not sure what's opening here but the retail unit at the base of 2 St. Thomas Street (NW corner with Charles) has signage indicating it's been leased:

My own prediction (because it was already happening pre-pandemic): Landlords will keep stores empty trying to attract Louis Vuitton-level retailers with end result of losing money and harming the community.

For the past 10 years Yorkville has been in decline while at the same time Yorkdale has been upping its luxury offerings with the creation of the luxury wing. While Yorkville is still a destination, it is not as much of a luxury destination anymore considering how gentrified it has become.

What used to be all high end is now Nordstrom off the rack, Lululemon, Roots, H&M, Winners and Homesense. Yorkdale on the other hand is ditching lower end retailers to focus on Tiffany, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Holts, etc.

The writing is on the wall and it says "head to Yorkdale".

Maybe Yorkville will return to its counter-culture heydays of the 60's, or immigration-hub of days long ago.

One can only hope. I'm kinda tired of the rich a-holes and wealthy-worship tourism.

Yorkville is a prime location and major tourist destination. It will never return to its counter culture heyday or be an immigration hub.

Immigration is moving to the suburbs and even Queen West is losing its counter culture persona now.
