Is she that bad? She's a reliable progressive vote on council, even if she's past her prime years.

Makes sense. As the father of Green Energy 1 and the billion dollar or so eHealth fiasco, Smitherman would be at home on Council's clown car.Yes, enough of these has-beens. Vote Smitherman!

If he loses, he is damaged goods.Win-win scenario for Denzil. If he wins he likely gets a cabinet post under Premier Brown. If not, he walks to victory in his council race the following October.
If he loses, he is damaged goods.
That being said, we will need the media to guilt him into announcing he won't subsequently then run for council during the provincial election, like we did with Karen Stintz on her ill-faited mayoral run.
The media won't guilt him into picking just one race. Karen Stintz might have, and Olivia Chow was eventually guilted into resigning from Council before running for MP, but Denzil? Won't happen. He doesn't have the shame, nor can he be as easily accused of being overly ambitious like a Stintz.
And same with DMW after his 1997 federal run. Many councillors have run for higher office when sitting on council and voters didn't turn on them. Jack Layton's first kick at the can for a federal seat in 1997 was unsucessful, and he got re-elected easily on council. Raymond Cho and David Shiner unsuccessfully ran provincially and still won their council seats, although Cho won his second time around.
