This is the location of a struggling strip mall whose only tenant currently is a Chinese take out place (formerly Ho-Lee Chow).

I'm pretty sure there isn't an official application submitted for this site yet but I saw a machine on site today with workers collecting soil samples. The Thruway muffler centre beside it (SW corner of St. Clair/Winona) appears to have closed down and left empty for some time now. If they combine the sites this could be a good opportunity for mid-rise intensification here.

There's a banner now on the corner, former Thruway Muffler building (861 St. Clair Ave W) indicating the site is for redevelopment. Crofton Moore was mentioned as the management firm involved.

Building sold recently, the Chinese restaurant closed as of March 1. I work in the building next door, owner has minimal intent to sell, so curious to see what happens on that now larger corner plot (assuming same developer will eventually own both).
 
That website indicates a 2 storey commercial property with construction supposedly starting this year in 2018.

A missed opportunity IMO if that is (still) the plan. I'd expect something 8-10 storeys with residential, either condos or rentals for this site.
 
Just an update for the block: the owner of my work building (873) said that the last two hold outs are us and the Dollar Club at 875. Everything else has been scooped up. The owner of 875 states that he won't sell unless 873 sells first.

The ground level can be improved. But I do welcome the distinct shape, angles, and textures from the brick.
