GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I have to say I'm skeptical about the new track through Weston being very useful in the short term. Though it would make space for Kitchener trains to move off UPX tracks *at* Weston, it seems that together with the track layout and service pattern in other places, this would actually result in...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I wonder what the deal is with Georgetown. As far as I can tell, there's only about 0.35 mile of yard track, and the rest of the slowness is on bonded track built to mainline standards. Couldn't much of this be fixed just by tinkering with the signals? For example, letting westbound trains...

IIRC they'll be widening the platform to the south, to prepare for the new pocket track to be added as part of OnCorr.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I was hoping the new main track (old service track) through Malton would allow for a better PM eastbound schedule, without the 1.5 hour gap to let VIA 87 through. With the current layout at Wice, though, the new track (blue) can't be accessed from the east without reversing, and the...

    VIA Rail

The connection did work until recently, both from 70 to 84 and the other way. 70 was cancelled for the initial lockdown in March 2020 and wasn't restored until this September. Meanwhile, speeds on the Guelph sub dropped further. If I'm not mistaken, 84's last on-time arrival in Toronto was...

The westbound deadhead would leave Kitchener around 3am, not very rider-friendly. Eastbound, the deadhead has to contend with VIA 87. With the planned revenue arrival at 20:17, it can only head back east once 87 arrives around 21:50. Maybe 21:35 or so once Guelph is fixed. (If the westbound GO...

One thing that stood out to me in the videos of the test runs to London were the train numbers used, 3815 and 3824. In the current schedule, that would imply a Union departure at 11:04 and a Union arrival at 16:28, which in turn would mean a highly ambitious meet at Stratford around 13:45. Is...

The expresses would run between about 6:30 and 8:30 in the morning, 4 trains per hour, and between 3:30 and 6:30 in the afternoon with about 3 per hour. Union to Oakville took around 30 minutes. GO has rewritten its train schedules from scratch in the meantime, so the exact pre-covid departure...

Dundas St Rapid Transit (Metrolinx, Mississauga, Halton Region, CoT)

Now if only they'd add a bus-only left turn phase westbound, so the 110 doesn't have to backtrack up the Collegeway!

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Double track from Aurora up to Newmarket! I am pumped. And a paradoxical redo of Halwest, where despite adding a third track, GO would still be limited to one train through it at a time, without impacting CN?

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Google Maps air photo from 2005 shows a service track branching off track 3 between the two crossovers to tracks 2, going through where the signal bungalow is now, with another right-hand crossover from track 3 east of those, east of which it followed today's track 4. The 2007 air photo shows...

Are they adding just one of these back or both?

    Metrolinx: Other Items (catch all)

As part of OnCorr the north service track at Burlington is supposed to be tied into the interlockings at either end of the station. I wonder if they're moving that up to allow for a more RER-like service design as soon as Confederation is ready.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Though the cuts are in some cases drastic (West Harbour having only a single train), for some trips the new schedules are actually an improvement. On the Lakeshore lines, all trips are local, giving inner stations three (LE) or four (LW) trains an hour, up from the usual two, and the long gaps...

Welp. These are the June seat-miles Verster was talking about: In less comical news, there's also two round trips extended from Aurora to Barrie on weekends, making good use of the Teston to Kirby double track.

When reaperexpress first posted the schedule PDFs, the Lakeshore East one showed new expresses at 7:50 from Oshawa and 16:50 from Union, which aren't there anymore.

Hm, looks like they've backed out of the new Oshawa express trips, no mention in the announcement and they've disappeared from the schedule as well. Odd considering the changes to train lengths imply they're still using an additional train in the morning.

There's currently a six-car train that arrives at Union from Gormley at 7:11, sits out most of the peak period in a yard, and then does the 8:55 trip to Mount Pleasant. I'm guessing they'll have this one do the 8:27 Bramalea trip and then go out of service until the evening, and then the train...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Kitchener too! A new local from Bramalea in the morning and the oddball Malton trip extended to Bramalea. The Kitchener/Georgetown trips flanking these aren't being made express though, I assume until the elevators are finished at Bramalea.
