I worked in CCW for awhile and do recall the courtyard being under-used at the time. I imagine it will be even more windswept with the addition of such a large building. I would love to see other ideas rather than this just one proposal and it would be fascinating to see what Pei himself would...

Also don't forget there's a lot of of stuff going inside the glass pavilion such as supporting structures. This is a highly idealized rendering afterall so probably not nearly as permeable or view permitting as imagined. I'm also not convinced it will be built with all-glass in this climate, it...

Architecturally speaking I'm not sure that this is progress. I've read that Pei's Commerce Court is the city's best example of the International style, and CCN is perhaps the most attractive tall building in the FD. Is HP's building that will undoubtedly crowd and overwhelm them really all that...

For me it is the weakest part of the design. It looks impermanent almost like a circus tent- and the elephant and silver balloons aren't helping :) It's the polar opposite of the heavy and austere architecture of CCE and CCW. I'm also having flashbacks to the ROM crystal- in terms of snow and...

I think there were reasons along those lines that it couldn't be saved, or at least not in a cost-effective way.

I really like how these towers turned out, and the interiors look great- love those 'tree lamps'.

Similarly I would have preferred they not reclad 488 University, where they actually destroyed the concrete lattice. It seems 5 PVM was done differently with a glass curtain over top of the concrete cladding which actually showcases the pattern through the vision class- a double skin. I'm not...

When looking at these towers- 5 Place Ville Marie comes to mind. Pei Cobb Freed & partners added more office space and resheathed the facades quite tastefully without destroying the integrity of the complex. In fact the glass quite nicely reflects the stunning SunLife building across the...

It really is a nice plaza, a lot of different textures and the heavier architecture with punched windows works well to enclose the space. Schuster Gindin from livingtorontojournal.com

Very much share the opinion about the atrium at grade- rather incongruous and seems an afterthought. Indeed it looks like a glass tent and could probably be integrated better. I do like the idea of opening that southern stretch to the street- it's pretty lifeless as it is. In terms of the tower...

I don't much like Robarts library either but I definitely wouldn't want to see it reclad in spandrel. This office building is representative of a noteworthy architectural style with some historical significance- Parkin was Canada's leading mid-century modern architects and I believe this...

Yes the Shard is pretty unique to London. I don't think it's the best location for anything neo-futurist like the Shard anyway, more sculptural buildings like that are much better served standing alone. I think we'll be seeing something more conventional as represented, especially given it's...

Hopefully they maintain the appearance of the original with its robust vertical design. I would hate to see more glass cladding, especially with the chintzy effort across the street.

Good points, pretty hard to put that amount of office space on this sight and be remotely faithful to the master plan. The space currently reminds me of Place Ville Marie, which is being reworked and enhanced, but you pretty much obliterate that with this massive tower.

    Toronto YC Condos -- Yonge at College | 198.42m | 62s | Canderel | Graziani + Corazza

Given its location on Yonge next to a lovely heritage building the base is a huge fail, I'm still not entirely sure how this is going to turn out but with that hash of spandrel it's not looking good. Compare it to Karma next door- a handsome highrise that also did a wonderful job at ground level.

I don't see a mess at all with the tower portion, please no to setbacks or any retro nod to CCN. The base could do with some reworking, and perhaps slimmer and/or taller might enhance the somewhat bulky appearance of the tower. Very curious as to why they chose the exact same height as FirstCan.

Yes it seems to all come down to the cladding on these glass towers so certainly agree. Are those vertical fins on the exterior facades? I quite like that look on tall projects. Actually that's one of the things that I don't like about One World Trade in NY, while the building form is fine from...
