    The Coming Disruption of Transport

The Niagara Parks Commission is looking for "the private sector to bring innovative and sustainable ideas" for a "visitor transportation system at Niagara Parks". The RfP description states: The Niagara Parks Commission (“NPC”) is seeking to engage the private sector for a potential Revenue...

    Metrolinx: Other Items (catch all)

It's impossible to say because the public session of the Board meetings are just "theatre" put on for us. No serious questions are ever asked of those presenting and the materials they present are always absurdly high-level and often out of date - last quarter reporting when we're 6 weeks into...

I guess the sets of yellow do-not-cross poles alongside the track at platform level are to dissuade you form climbing on the coupling between the cars.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

A stop at Woodbine is important to provide the connection for customers originating in K-W, Guelph, Halton Hills, and Brampton. Especially if you're advocating for Weston to be removed (the, somewhat impractical, connection point currently provided).

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

I notice that they propose a station at Bovaird Dr / 413, and not at City of Brampton's preferred location, which is the intersection between the Kitchener Line and the the 413 Transit Way. Perhaps it's the Province's way of say you're not getting that Heritage Road GO Station?

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Metrolinx has issued contradictory info on the Georgetown layover. In the Q&A for the Heritage Layover consultation it was stated that Gtown would close once Heritage opened, but in information provide to a developer of the adjacent lot, only one of the existing 3 bay tracks will be removed.

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

Having lost the fight against the CN Logistics Hub at Tremaine & Britannia, Halton Region may be responding by bringing this junction forward in an attempt to keep trucks away from suburban streets. Perhaps there will be a truck ban on Steeles between Industrial Dr and Tremaine

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

The latest images of new stations suggest that the south-west 2 Kitchener Line tracks will be for stopping trains, with express / limited stop trains on the north-east 2 tracks. These from: https://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2023/ex/bgrd/backgroundfile-234904.pdf

Ontario Line North of Eglinton (was Relief Line North) (Speculation)

Yes, the current extensions utilize the existing technologies. But in my back-of-an-envelope transit planning world Sheppard gets extensions to both McCowen and YYZ and adopts a technology that's closer to the proposed light metro of the extended Ontario Line than the technology currently in...

Ontario Line North of Eglinton (was Relief Line North) (Speculation)

Interestingly this is not a Metrolinx document, it was released by the provincial MTO: https://www.ontario.ca/page/connecting-ggh-transportation-plan-greater-golden-horseshoe Metrolinx is about to commission a matching 2051 Regional Transit Plan (transit vs. all transportation modes) through an...

The CEOs report at the Metrolinx Board Meeting last week included a statement that indicated they have agreed a set of tasks to complete the remaining work (testing, training and commissioning) with CTS, but that there are too many variables to commit to an exact opening date. The example they...

2051 Regional Transit Plan Metrolinx is accepting RfP submissions for provision of 2051 Regional Transit Plan until 22-Aug-2023. https://www.metrolinx.merx.com/public/solicitations/2556160462/abstract?origin=0 I guess this would add details to the MTOs 2051 Regional Transportation Plan.

As the Relief Line North study was stopped, the only evidence we have is the Ministry of Transportation 2051 Regional Transportation Plan, from Feb 2022. This shows an extension straight-north from Science Centre (30), merging with the East-West route (29) at Hwy407, and then separating again...
