I think theyre calculating the Province sees King-Liberty as so essential to their expansion plans that they would fund it themselves. Otherwise the city prioritizing St Clair/Old Weston would make no sense considering the low ridership being projected there.

Has the VIA HFR announcement been delayed? Project schedule indicated they would select the bid winner in "Fall 2024" and the reporting in October was indicating they would announce a decision within weeks. Hopefully the political gridlock in Ottawa isn't affecting this project.

Alberta's plans for intercity passenger rail are pretty impressive. I'm pleasently surprised that government sees fast and frequent rail as key to accomadating their rapid growth. I was expecting them to go all-in highway expansion. Hopefully this is the start of provinces having grown up...

If GO eventually fully integrates fares with the TTC they could explode their ridership and overtake LIRR. Toronto riders being able to ride GO trains with TTC fares within city limits would transform GO and really change how people are able to get around.

Always wondered why this wasn't already a thing with these countries sharing a head of state and being commonwealth countries. The UK essentially treats travelers from Canada and U.S. the same. Makes you wonder as a Canadian what the point of being part of the commonwealth is nowadays.

Whichever train model they choose for this project will likely be manufactured in the States. HSR rolling stock options for North America seem down to Siemens and Alstom, both of which have a significant manufacturing presence down south.

I'm glad previous generations were ambitious and forward-thinking enough to build things like the St. Lawrence Seaway that contribute a good chunk to our GDP. We could never build something like that nowadays.
