    Toronto Waterfront Innovation Centre | 53.03m | 11s | Waterfront Toronto | Sweeny &Co

Wait, this little slice of Vaughan Corporate Centre on the water isn't what Jane Jacobs meant with the whole "new ideas need old buildings" thing?

Looks like shoring is under way.

Wasn't that CIBC on the north-west corner, as opposed to the south-west?

    Victory/Standard theatre - 285 Spadina - proposed restoration

Some word salad from their website:

    Toronto Dufferin Grove Village | 125.03m | 36s | Primaris | BDP Quadrangle

Agreed. They seem to be pitching A as an extension of Dufferin Grove Park, which, since those two spaces are separated by a very busy arterial, I don't really buy, but at at least "Dufferin Common" would be versatile in and of itself. With B and C you wind up with two awkward spaces, neither of...

Does "RTU" mean Retail Tenant Unit? This is interesting. Maybe all renos to the Wal-Mart? The McDonalds in the food court is long gone; the only one is inside the Wal-Mart. I also noticed yesterday that the Marshall's (at the Sylvan entrance) is gone – the space has been gutted. That might be...

I thought I remembered they were all coming this year, but couldn't find confirmation. Thanks for that, ferusian! I'm curious to find out how they'll get the two Commissioners spans in place.

I'm not sure what's more impressive, the design work or that they've teleported The One to Adelaide and John.

Toronto Ontario Court of Justice Toronto | 95.7m | 17s | Infrastructure ON | Renzo Piano

"Grey" is a fair cop – our public realm is often dismal. But "empty"? It's an office district, on a weekend, at the height of a pandemic. Of course it's empty.

    Bloor Street West Bike Lanes

Toronto Hydro still has the entire south half of Bloor (and the south sidewalk) blocked off for construction from Perth to Dundas. There's been no sign of any activity, it's just blocked off with equipment lying about. Possible they've dragged their feet so much that it's now too cold for them...

LOL. I would be sorely tempted to move across the street just to look at that all day.

It wouldn't be the first time. I'd hope the architect would learn from past experience: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Disney_Concert_Hall#Reflection_problems

I have to admit, I envy your seemingly unsinkable optimism. You've got to be the only person on these boards who sees this block-long inert lump and says "you know, I wish it was A THOUSAND FEET TALLER"

I'll take an interesting failure (and the neighbour is definitely a failure, one of the more grotesque facadectomies in recent memory) over bland, spandrel-laced mediocrity any day.

    Toronto 96 Spadina | 69.5m | 16s | Allied | Sweeny &Co

Not to defend our city's bizarre passion for facadectomy, but I distinctly remember Rashid once going on about how he dislikes seeing books in people's homes because they're messy (except his own books, one assumes). It makes sense that he'd have such distaste for any messy visual evidence of...

    Toronto Florence Booth House | 19.56m | 4s | The Salvation Army | DTAH

It stands out to me that DTAH describe it as a shelter for "cis and trans women", since the Salvation Army has repeatedly been accused of transphobia over the years. I sincerely hope this is part of an effort from the SA to be more inclusive. That aside – looks architecturally pretty decent...

I'm picturing something like the window in the Horseshoe that lets you get A&W from next door. Confess while sinning! Such a time-saver!

Toronto John Innes Recreation Centre & Moss Park Arena Revitalization | 21.35m | 4s | City of Toronto | MJMA

If memory serves, the previous plan replaced the arena with park space; the new building on the western side of the park, alongside the Armoury, took on those functions.

Looks like a normal patina starting to form on the statue to me. As for the grass, I'm sure the dog urine doesn't help, but I suspect it's more pedestrian traffic: it's a very well-used park, and if one were selfie-inclined, in front of those hands is a logical place to stand.
