    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Bayview/Highway 7 is well along the way to redeveloping to North York-like densities. So is the Warden/Highway 7/Enterprise/Kennedy corridor. When York Region says they are going to densify a place, I believe them.

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

YRT doesn't have a shortage of buses. They've cut service this year, reducing frequency on a number of routes.

    Downtown Rapid Transit Expansion Study

If the train fills up soon after leaving RHC, then of course it will account for a huge chunk of the traffic. People south of it won't be able to get on. Edit: Reasons why this ridership might not materialize: - Spadina subway extension (opens 2016) - Richmond Hill GO all day service (not...

    Downtown Rapid Transit Expansion Study

You can ride the current B-D end to end in less than hour. That's less time than a lot of GO commutes. In fact, it's faster than my commute from Christie Station to Markham Centre, since it's a line that would serve that exact purpose.^-^

    Road Tolls

    1) For 2) No booths. There should be appropriate scanners at every onramp. I'm ok with exempting 416ers from paying tolls as some have suggested. 3) Municipal road tolls would potentially encourage business to move back into Toronto, as commercial property taxes could be correspondingly...

Streetcar routes with a lot of new development: * Queen * King * Queens Quay * St. Clair * Spadina Bus routes with a lot of new development: * Davenport * Bay * ?

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I'm using Presto to tap into YRT buses and it seems to be handling auto-reload fine.

Waterfront: West Don Lands - Cherry Street Design Charette

Yes, you can. It's actually much easier to jaywalk across Spadina than it would be across a comparable street without a streetcar right of way.

    Downtown Rapid Transit Expansion Study

Re: Union train capacity, I believe that the bottleneck is the number of approaching tracks rather than number of platforms. In the West, there's a space crunch between Skydome and the Convention Centre where fewer tracks can fit than Metrolinx would like. I'm not sure what the situation is like...

    Transit Fantasy Maps

Electrification allows for quicker acceleration and deceleration, which allows for more stops with minimal impact on travel times. It would also potentially allow for lighter trains and rolling stock, which has many nice side effects.

    Downtown Rapid Transit Expansion Study

Worthwhile project, yes. An alternative to the Sheppard subway, maybe. A reliable shortcut from Agincourt to Union is very welcome. An alternative to the DRL, not really. DRL to me is defined by a transfer from the Danforth line. This would intercept Danforth subway at Main Street, which is...

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

You're assuming that YRT/Viva wouldn't be pitching in for the operating costs of the subway.

    Downtown Rapid Transit Expansion Study

I don't think tunnelling Richmond Hill GO to Castle Frank makes sense. It would be an expensive project through nasty terrain underneath expensive real estate, and it would connect to a low-ridership station with few existing connections. Near term, it also makes no sense to add any more riders...

    TTC: Sheppard Subway Expansion (Speculative)

It's also contingent on the Sheppard LRT, as the SRT extension relies on there being a new LRT yard on Sheppard to store additional vehicles. This is why it briefly disappeared in the Ford-Metrolinx compromise from last year but is back now.

    Sheppard East LRT Renderings

I see that these are unofficial. If they were official, they'd be a bit disappointing compared with what Viva is building: http://www.vivanext.com/assets/files/pastConsultations/March_23_2011/NewVivastationFeatures.pdf Things I expect: - Next vehicle arrival time display - Enclosed waiting...

    What happened to smart growth?

I was going to say the same thing, but since it's been said I will suggest a counter-argument: Moving closer to work is only practical if you are single or if both you and your partner work in the same area.

    Transit City Plan

Maximum capacity (36,000 pphpd) is different from the subway construction threshhold (10,000 pphpd). Many trains on Spadina have a regular short turn point before Downsview. St. George is less used than Bloor-Yonge even though St. George is an easier transfer. That was an idiot official who...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

It's Sheppard East and the Stouffville GO line. The funding is coming from the Sheppard LRT budget, but it's something they would have needed to do anyway to put in better service on the GO line.

    Transit City Plan

What if they built what you call a subway but only ran it once every 20 minutes? The more capacity you build, the less service you will run unless you have unlimited subsidies. LRT = better service. That makes no sense. Frequency of service is driven by capacity required. Bunching doesn't...

    Transit City Plan

I can't keep track of who's arguing what in this absurd discussion, but I'm stupid so I'll contribute. All of the terminology is blurry. It's perfectly reasonable to call Eglinton LRT a subway. The vehicles are the same width as New York subway trains. The important bit runs underground...
