The Whitfield continues to carve out its place in Toronto’s St. Lawrence neighbourhood at Front Street East and Sherbourne Street. Since UrbanToronto’s last update in June, 2024, when the podium reached its full structural height, the tower now stands at 19 storeys, nearing the halfway mark of its final 39-storey count. This development, a collaborative effort by Menkes Developments and Core Development Group, features a design by Giannone Petricone Associates with Rafael + Bigauskas Architects as Architect of Record.

In the past three months, there has also been progress on the lower levels, with painted cladding on the podium and glazing at the tower's base.

In this aerial capture taken in August, 2024, the tower now boasts seven additional storeys above the fully formed nine-storey podium, rising on the west end of the site. Visible in the foreground is the green steel scaffold supporting the preserved wall of the heritage Whitfield Building. Adjacent on the right is the Pearlman and Goldberg Building's heritage facade, set to serve as the primary residential entrance.

On the top floor, construction activity is highlighted by a red concrete boom pump extending across the site to the south side, with construction crews guiding the pour. Above the thicker slab atop the second storey, the podium levels now feature white pre-cast stamped and inlaid brick panels. On the west elevation, we spot a touch of burgundy colouring above the sixth floor.

This aerial view looking southwest showcases the north elevation, where a construction hoist is installed up to the 11th floor. The top floor of the podium, earmarked for the future outdoor amenity terrace, extends eastward along Front Street, laden with formwork and construction materials. To the right of the tower crane, the arm of a concrete boom pump has been repositioned to the southwest corner of the site. Additional formwork is arranged to the east of the crane.

From the intersection of Sherbourne Street and Front Street East this month, this street-level perspective showcases The Whitfield's emerging place in the neighbourhood. The tower portion has successfully risen to ten storeys, above the curved podium that outlines the south elevation.

The south end of the podium's west elevation features a burgundy spray-applied finish atop the third through ninth floors. This approach to colour application currently presents uneven edges as work progresses.

Looking southeast from Sherbourne Street, the west elevation displays inlaid brick patterns. Construction crews are actively engaged on a suspended swing stage above the fourth level, applying paint to the exterior. Above, on the 11th floor, the installation of a curtain wall system is underway, with dark glazing marking the transition from the podium and outdoor terrace to the residential tower. It introduces a visual break, with the upper tower set to display vertical brick fins.

The Whitfield appears on track for its scheduled completion in December, 2025, rising to a height of 130m and adding 484 units to the St. Lawrence neighbourhood.
